Garmin Nuvi 200 software/maps updates

Featured Replies

Hello!

I got an old Garmin Nuvi 200 Gps and would like to update maps + software. Where is the best/cheaptest place in Bangkok to do so? (how much is it about?)

Thnx a lot

Perhaps gadgetrend.com/ but if you're a bit handy, you can do it all by yourself.

You can try the 4th floor of MKB center in Bangkok, next to National Stadium Skytrain station. The map is about THB 400 for a replacement edition, the software depends on how old the Garmin is - but usually free..

i just checked regarding the software, seems to be from 2009 and maps (globetech) 2011

but actually I don't really know how to check status of software + maps? just if switching on it says nuvi 2009...., maps, globetech 2011...

OK, map should be THB 400 and software is free. Replacement is when you have a US, European, Australian etc. map installed, costs is THB 2,000.

Any mini usb will do. You can buy the cable at any computer accessory shop around the corner.

I have never had a problem with using the files from that website, your sat nav should work fine. Make sure you download the unlocked IMG file.

just updated with the new 2013 map, working perfectly and was very, very easy to do!

Does anybody knows what type of cable is used for nuvi 205W, it is not mini usb?

According to the Garmin instructions the 205W uses the mini-USB cable. Mini-USB type "A" connection plugs into your 205W and a standard type "A" USB connection goes into your computer. A digital camera cable should do the job. If you purchase a cheap USB cable it will not work.

Well not for me, I got the usb cable now and are connected to my pc.

I downloaded one of the IMG files to my pc (can't find any img files on my nuvi205w?)

The downloaded files are rar files and have to be extracted?

Hope somebody can help, thanks.

OK here goes look along line at top it will say Extract to,.click on that it should show what you have connected and one of those item's will be your GARMIN. Click on Garmin then click OK just below and then all should transfer across.

1. You should have downloaded an English language City Navigator Thailand NT 2013.20 (unlocked) file.

2. Connect everything together - the Garmin, Computer and USB cable - and then locate the Garmin moveable hard drive on your computer display. Open the Garmin drive and search for "gmapprom or gmapprom.img", it will be the largest file there.

3. Extract the downloaded City Navigator Thailand NT 2013.20 file to either your Download or Desktop area.

4. Upload the old file from your Garmin to someplace safe on your computer.

5. Download the new map file from your Download or Desktop area and replace the old map from your Garmin. Make sure the new map is called exactly the same as the old map.

6. There is another way to replace the maps, but either method will work.

Thanks guys, I did a mixture of both suggestions and I can see that upon start up of my nuvi205 that it says 2013 Nostra and not 2010 as before, so that's cool.

Many roads have been build here in pattaya (and elsewhere) since 2010 so I been driving a lot off-road according to the garmin, lol, hopefully not anymore.

Thanks again chaps. wai2.gif
