Egypt Over Songkran

Featured Replies

Was in Egypt over Songkran....

Well, if BKK is the city of Angels, Cairo is certainly the "city of mud" ( or dust ). Travelled quite a bit, but never seen such a dirty city. Seeing Hollywood movies with with donkeys and horse and carts in the streets, i thought it was hollywood creativeness, but no..... its for real in Cairo.

Most soi's are full of rubble and dirty, and well, I recon it must go down as one of the most ugliest cities in the world. Bangkok is miles ahead of Cairo for sure.

Having to pay tips for everything is normal there, and one of the people in our group got robbed at the Giza pyramids ( you have to watch your self in the tourist traps) by people on camels bellieve it or not ( like motorbike thiefs here )

Recon the were way ahead of everyone 5000 years ago, but little has developed since then.

Anyway, if your heading that way, there are still some great things to see. What I appreciated the most was"

1. Giza Pyramids / Sphynx

2. Cairo Museum

3. Alexandria Museum

4. Catacombs in Alexandria

5. Walking the streets ( an awe of the mess / chaos )

Did not get to Luxor

Guy wanted to buy the Mrs. for 1000 camels, but declined...... should be atleats 2000 I recon :o:D

Luxor & Aswan great places. You missed the most important sites.Did you go to Sakhara? The Suez canal?Egypt is a mixture, there are affluent suburbs, with tree lined streets & clean too.

In old Cairo,the suspended churches.

We have travelled extensively there & plan to go back.Yes you have to be careful with the tourist traps & touts.

I find organised tours a pain, same as in Thailand always stopping at a gem store,in Cairo a papyrus shop.

Yes ,lets have some more details .

Also ,how is the visa situation for the thai ladies in Egypyt.

We had a pleasant experience lately in South Africa. Have hardly ever been trough immigration and customs any where in the world ,and that holds true for my Thai lady as well . Visa on arrival ,as fast as they work those stamp pads.
