Hey All,

I am new to this forum but need some advise,

I am an English guy and have had the same Thai girl-friend since I arrived in Thailand 3 months ago.

I asked her if she has ever had an STD test to which she said no, I was very surprised as in the UK this is a fairly normal thing to do for both male and females, especially when your in a new relationship.

After speaking with her on this, it became apparent that for a Thai girl to get a general STD/STI test before marriage is not so simple as it is for a male/female in the UK and it somewhat sensitive. It seems for a guy there are several options available yet for a Thai female they are frowned upon and judged.

I have called a few clinics such as the Red Cross, Christian Clinic yet they will not offer her an STD/STI test as she is not married? they seem to mainly cater for males but will only test for blood/Aids for females,

My girlfriend mentioned she can get specific tests done within hospitals, for example she could get a Chlamydia test done, however she cannot get a general STD/STI test done to test for all, which obviously guys can easily.

I am wondering if anyone here knows where a Thai Female can get an STD/STI test done without hassle?

Anyway thanks in advance to anyone who can help

In relation to your question I would have thought the Red Cross clinic in BKK would provide screening.

Being married is not a requirement AFAIK.

However, it may be that some Thai women would be extremely reluctant to undergo STD screening owing to cultural or "face" issues

Wait for Sheryl to arrive she more well informed about the availability of health care facilities in Thailand.

The red cross will test you for anything on their form, which I think covers almost everything. I once ticked everything(paranoid), still was less than $150. Then they email you your report card.

I also believe that if you meet your doctor and demand for the tests, they would be very happy to oblige.

I'm sure bumrungrad will do that. I once talked my doctor, into ultrasound, was nt satisfied I asked for a ct scan. All in a space of one hour.

Hey,

I have already called the Red Cross and the Christian clinic, neither will give a female a general STD test,

Sure they will for guys however I am seeking this for my Thai girl-friend hence the post,

Thanks

Hi,

No I do not speak Thai however they spoke very good English, my girlfriend has also just called and was given the same response,

I am not sure on your link, it does not really give prices etc maybe I will try calling them,

Seems pretty ridiculous a Thai female cannot simply get an STD test at a clinic and has to go to a Hospital which will probably cost £100`s,

Thanks for your responses

The fact is OPD of hospitals is the normal treatment of choice in Thailand. Clinics in the main are a very poor choice for quality (there are of course exceptions such as Red Cross for specialty tests and treatments but most are pill of the day dispensaries in my (non medical) opinion. But you do not have to go to the most expensive hospital (which that link leads to).

You are still calling them on the phones, if you really want it, get outside and start moving to one of the already mentioned places.

Now I remember, when I asked the RC for the STD panel tests, they sent me into a corner, where I saw only men of a particular sexual persuasion. When it was my turn, the guy refused to do anything I asked after taking a look, he said I should consider using KY, if I intend to fxnk myself to oblivion.

I went to my doc at bumrungrad and ordered it, turned out the RC quack was right.

Hi MegaRanter, I do not really understand your response, maybe it is the acronyms you are using such as KY, fxnk, quack... I am very sure the redcross will not give a thai female a general STD screening anyhow,

For the link to the hospital I just called them and they stated they will give certain STD tests but they will test for specific STDs not a general screening like you would get in the UK (testing for all STDs in one).

They did state if she was pregnant they would look at a more general test.

This said, I will go visit them tomorrow with my girlfriend and ask more firmly for them to do so.

Can you explain specifically what you mean by a "general STD test"? The Red Cross will certainly test for HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis. So will any of the hospitals. Marital status is irrelevant. I think there may be a communication problem here.

The Bkk Christian Silom Clinic is geared towards gay men so posisble that they would not (though elsewhere in the hospital can).

Sheryl

I understand about the Silom Clinic but the OP seems to be convinced that the Red Cross does not/will not provide for female clients.

I personally find this difficult to believe.

Perhaps with your greater knowledge of these issues you could advise ?

(I also suspect a communication problem possibly associated with the requirement for a "general STD" test)

hello,

Can I just say, the red cross 100% do not do any STI tests for females, only HIV tests, I have called them several times to ask.

Please call Tel: +66 2 256 4107 - 09 if you would like to confirm this yourself.

It is only males who can get STI tests done at the red cross.

Thanks
