Wrong stamp in passport - 15 days, should have been 2 months

Featured Replies

One of my friends has had a problem with his passport.

He's on a double-entry Non-Imm Ed Visa - he went to another country, and when he came back over land, instead of activating the second entry immigration gave him a 15 day stamp. Unfortunately, he didn't notice straight away.

My friend is in Phuket now, and the land border he crossed at is very far away! Can he get this sorted out at Phuket Immigration? Would there be a charge?

Luckily my friend noticed the wrong stamp quickly, so he is well inside the 15 days that he was stamped for.

He can try at Phuket, but they might send him back to the border where he entered to have them change it there. It sometimes happens and and will be free to change.

Alternatively he can go to immigration in Bangkok.

Is he sure he has a two entry ED visa? Very few Consulates would issue such a visa.

If he does have a 2 entry visa, the second entry must be made on or before the "must enter by" date on the VISA. If it was past that date he would only get a 15 day visa exempt entry. Have him check the visa to verify he entered on/before the "must enter by" date.

If the second entry try is before the expire date of the visa then Phuket immigration will normally correct this for him in his passport.

But this is not guaranteed and they send him back to the border.

If he would enter Thailand via Phuket Airport then the immigration office would send him back to the airport to short it out.

Are sure he has a ED visa. That would of given him a 90 day entry not 2 months as written in topic title. It sounds more like a 2 entry tourist visa which gives 60 days than an ED visa which may of expired already.

Good point, This sounds more logical.

As mentioned before you don't see many double entry ED visa's

AFAIK an ED visa is either a single entry 90 days or in some cases I've seen a single entry one year visa.

The OP's friend must have had an expired tourist visa.

Good point regarding the 2 months. That's my mistake - I should have said 3 months in the thread title.

It really is a double entry Ed Visa, I was surprised too, I've never seen one before. I double-checked when I looked at the passport, and it was definitely Visa Ed Number of Entries 2.

He made his visa run a bit earlier than he needed to, I double-checked the "enter by" date and he is well inside it.

Unless I'm missing something, it looks like a basic case of "immigration made a mistake at the land border". Would anyone like to hazard a guess as to how likely it is that Phuket Immigration will fix his passport? He will be visiting immigration soon anyway, but I would like to offer some reassurance if possible.

They should fix the stamp but he should do it ASAP.

I am thinking visa is from Melbourne.

Just a reminder to everyone that it is really up to us all to check what stamps they put in our passports as it is done. Then if there are questions you sort it right there and then.
