Transit in Malaysia

Featured Replies

Hi all, we are travelling from BKK to Melbourne with Air Asia, and transit in KL airport for 2 hours between flights.

My girlfriend is travelling on a Thai passport, she has an Australian tourist visa, with the visa grant letter, but DOES NOT have the visa label in her passport.

1. Does she need the visa label when transiting in the KL airport, I would have thought not as it is only 2 hours between flights and we don't leave the terminal, but just wanted to confirm.

2. Do any of us need a visa for Malaysia when transiting?

Thanks.

1 I doubt it as well

2 no need for malaysian visa

To the OP ... mate, no-one gets a label in their Passport anymore unless they pay for it.

The topic was discussed just recently and lots of information at this click-able link ... australian-visa-label

As for 'does she need a transit visa'? ... maybe yes and maybe no ... it depends on the type of ticket you bought.

If you are flying from Bangkok to Australia, changing planes in KL ... did you book the ticket as one or two tickets?

Most will book it as one ticket. It will show both legs of the flight on the one ticket.

Presuming so, then no need for immigration.

As you enter the LCCT (Low Cost Carrier Terminal), immediately as you walk through the door, there is a veer left for Transit Area ... or up the stairs for Immigration.

Came through 3 weeks ago AirAsia from Australia to Bangkok.

Nothing required whilst transiting KL LCCT...

No visas required for Malaysia for your travelling party either as you aren't exiting Customs and thus into Malaysia, despite you physically being on Malaysian ground.

On the return you'll just need to make sure you're Thai visas are in order, or you can show onward travel out of Thailand if you're going down the 30 day exemption or tourist visa route...

Thanks guys, yes the ticket was purchased as 1 ticket, so looks like we are all good.

Cheers.
