Hey all,

a few quick questions if i may, as we are needing a new telephone line for a new startup business.

1) How long does it take to get a new telephone line installed in Bangkok from the TOT?

2) How can we go about getting a nice, easy to remember number? Do we have a choice? Who should we be lobbying for such a thing?

3) Say in 6 months we change address, can we take our telephone number with us too, or do we have to start again with a new number?

Thanks in anticipation for your help guys.

Regards

Answers:

1) Use TT&T - i find their service faster and more efficient. Only took 3 days to have my 2 business lines installed.

2) I chose my numbers at the TT&T office - just speak a bit of Thai and they may let u choose, otherwise its take what your given.

3) Yes, you can take it with you.

TOT have said that they dopnt have any lines available, and im so loathed to go with True. I think i would rather change the location of our office to a location where TOT have available lines than deal with the nightmare that is True Corp.

Am i wrong to be feeling this way??

You are wrong. TRUE lines have fiber optic backbone where TOT may not (and are almost always more noisy). And you can have nightmares dealing with both of them, but in general TRUE does try to help - TOT is just coming out of the "I am government - you are just citizen - I don't have to make you happy" mentality.

I've been in BKK nearly a year now, at 2 different addresses. Both times had True landline and ADSL, both installed quickly. Landline is never a problem, ADSL is sometimes a bit slow but in general is ok.

In Lampang TOT said at least a 3 month wait for a line, TT&T said 4 days! 3 months later TOT came to install the line, I politely told them to go away. TOT is a sad excuse for a telephone company, a telephone company with no lines is as much good as a chocolate fireguard.

My advice is go with True, TOT sucks.
