more than 15 day visa possible?

Featured Replies

my mother is visiting me here and staying for a while (as yet we don't know how long). she has being doing land crossings to cambodia but doesn't want to go there every 15 days. understandably she doesn't want to travel to loas alone to get the double entry visa, is there anything else she can do to get something between a 30-90 visa (or longer if possible), without getting a retirement visa as i'm guessing they're quite expensive.

thank you

retirement visa is 1900baht.

If your mother had 800,000 baht in the bank she could get an extension based on retirement, this is done within Thailand, using her present visa from the border she would require a lot of documentation, she would have to go to her local immigration office and get this done.

Litebeer and Lopburi will be online and give better information, as it could be that mine is not all correct.

Extension of stay based on retirement for 1 year is 1.900 baht.

She'll need to convert her visa exempt stamp to a non-O visa first for 2.000 baht.

She'll need to be over 50 years and have 800.000 baht in a Thai account for 2 months or a verified income from her embassy for 65.000 baht/month.

Or a combination of the two mentioned above.

If Mum is over 50 she can apply for a single entry "O" visa in a nearby country. That will provide the 90 days.

As an alternative she could apply for a tourist visa ( in a nearby country) which would provide 60 days and is extendible for a further 30 days.

The longer she stays the narrower the options become.

She can be a dependent of you, if over 50 and living with you, without the need of financials. Your extension of stay is enough to give your mother an extension of stay that matchess yours. of course it is better to have her own extension of stay.

Prior to your mothers arrival she can apply for a 12 month visa giving her 4 x 90 day entries.

For this they have to show the birth certificate from the son or daughter which is used for the dependent and initial Non-O visa is required, so no option in this case.

She could easily get a single entry non-o at any nearby consulate or embassy with copies of sons passport and birth certificate.

Does this mean my Mother can simply visit an Immigration office over here to get her non-O visa, she doesn't need to neighbouring country?

Yes. Visit immigration with financial proof and passport showing age over 50 with about 15 or more days of stay remaking to obtain a 90 day non immigrant visa entry.

Some very useful information posted , I am perplexed somewhat in the relation of the dependant synopsis , sorry just jumping in not my OP , where can I get the info I require for this dependant " visa "

Thanks if you can point me somewhere ,, Goomps

For extension of stay regulations read police order 777/2551 in pinned thread or Google it. It covers both retirement and dependent extensions.

If for retirement yes. But it is not done at every immigration office.

Money has to be in bank but not for 60 days.

She would need to do it within a very few days (1 or 2 best) of getting a 15 day entry.

Again it depends where you do this.

Some offices require 60 days for the money to be in the account for the first extension.

Correct 60 days needed for extension but not for the conversion to non immigrant visa entry.

It depends which kind of depended extension you need.

Parent to be depended on child

NON-O as prerequisite

Birth certificate ( Thai or English )

Parent over 50 years

Both extensions (child and parent) will be linked and have same expire dates.

And the normal standard paperwork for extensions.

NON-O as prerequisite

Birth certificate ( Thai or English )

Child under 20 years and never married.

Both extensions (child and parent) will be linked and have same expire dates.

And the normal standard paperwork for extensions.

Those requirements are for Phuket immigration office but they can change from other immigration offices and therefore the immigration office should be contacted for any local ruling before applying for the depended extension.

STAY AWAY from any of the services which offerer a "visa" for a fee !

If what is required cannot be obtained through normal, legal channels then it is not available!

By taking the "fee" route Mum will likely end up with some very dodgy stamps in her passport.

Not worth the risk !

For first step to get visa entry will not require money to be in bank 60 days. Just need proof of balance from bank. It needs to be there for 2nd step for 60 days to apply for extension.

Are you prepared to Pay 25 to 30k baht for the extension. That is what cost would be for an agent.

Thank you for the comments regarding agents guys. I'm off to Mapthaput Immigration next week to extend my visa and I will take my Mother with me. Hopefully they will tell me if it is possible and exactly what I need.

Thank you all for your help and advice on my questions :)

I assume you are doing an extension of stay (not a visa).

What type of extension are you getting? Work, marriage and etc.?

Other than one based upon marriage to a Thai she can get an extension as your dependent.

to be honest i'm not sure, i was just going to go to immigration next week and see what they said. what exactly does she need to do or provide to get an extension as my dependant, bearing in mind i'm only on a non "O" visa, i don't have wor permit etc.

In your previous post you said you wrote that you were going to extend your visa which would be an extension of stay. You cannot extend a visa.

Upon what basis are you getting the extension for? Marriage to a Thai? Retirement?

Having a work permit does not matter.

Marriage to a Thai would be one of the few that would not allow her to get an extension as your dependent.

i have a 90 day non "O" visa as i have a child here, which i can extend by 60 days at immigration. as i have only a non "O", i was wondering if my mother can get an extension as my dependant. if not, is there any way she do anything other than ging to cambodia every 15 days or going to the thai embassy in laos to enable her to get maybe a 60-90 day visa?

She can only get an extension as your dependant if you have a 12 month extension of stay.

Not if you have a Non Imm Visa

She can get a Tourist Visa at a Thai Consulate in a neighbouring Country

Probably a double entry in Laos

What about the retirement extension that has been mentioned before?

She could get a single entry non-o visa (2000 baht) for being over 50 that would give her a 90 day entry. Cheaper than a single entry tourist visa (1000 baht) with 30 day extension (1900) to get 90 days. She could also use it to get retirement extension.
