ABCer
Being not educated enough in Thai version of Democracy, would somebody on TV explain to me: Are Police supervising Sessions of Thai Parliament? My feeble notion of Democratic process was leaving Police to protect Parliament from outside interference, or am I wrong? Usually the Members of Parliament enjoy immunity no matter what they say or do during the Session, don't they? A more general question: - when a person's opinion is wrong? Can it be wrong? Sorry, never went to school in Thailand...

All of this playground behaviour is a disgrace in itself and these people still expect, no demand, respect. They will of course over look their faults, well they don't actually have any, but what about the picture of a PTP MP sound alseep in the House with a colleague taking his photo ? When it comes to tarnishing the country's image how about a certain cabinet minister photographed / videoed as a falling down drunk in Hong Kong and Malaysia ?

Robby nz
Surely the stories of rice that has been sold overseas and is being dumped or returned because it is unfit to eat would tarnish Thailand's image far more. Thailand used to be a country known for a quality rice product and in 2 years this Govt has not only lost the country the spot of the worlds top rice exporter but destroyed the reputation for producing and selling top quality rice. With, we are told, 17million tons of rice of doubtful quality still in storage there would seem little or no chance of ever getting back a reputation of quality. Tarnishing Thailand's image indeed.
DocN
They tarnished it more, than the Red Bull-heir, drunk (and drugged) driving, killing a policeman, speeding, bribing, etc. and still walking free? ...or even more than the 2 songkhran- girls, dancing with their t-shirts off? I am confused.. Edited August 29, 2013 by DocN

slapout
To say the Thai image is/was tarnished would seem to be a upgrade in image. It is hard to hurt the reputation of the present leadership of Thailand, just do not try to include the general Thai people in the same boat, you are at the helm of. (some would call it a floating sh.t wagon which has a bad leak) The people who care, see Thailand for what it is, not what some PR group try to make it. The pointing finger, blame farang, preceived insult which leads to thuggery, etc has run its course. Its time to man up to problems, find real solutions, and proceed with a course of action that benifets Thailand.

Utley
Thailand first tarnished their image when they aligned themselves with Japan during WW II and allowed themselves to be enslaved by their new masters. When they work that one off, we can start talking about their banana republic behaviour in the guise of democracy. Me thinks the emperor has no clothes. Popular Post hansnl
The PTP speaker was at fault. If he was indeed feeling threatened, he should have closed the proceedings and left the house. By calling in the police to form a human shield around him he expressly tried to intimidate the opposition. Also he wanted the police to remove soma MP's from the house, clearly meant to silence the protests from the opposition The most stupid thing, he degraded the law-giving body of the country to being under the control of a law enforcing body. And what is more, he showed the world that the Thai parliament is treated by the coalition majority as a body to enforce rules and laws only meant to be profitable for their own sake. And not for all the people. Very shamefull.

Did the 2 MPS assault the police officers? Yes or No? If Yes, your position is that it is okay to do so. The complaint is the appropriate procedure to follow if the MPs did assault the police officers. If there was no assault the Ombudsman's office will rule accordingly. There is nothing wrong with following procedures to seek redress. With your reasoning, MPs can assault whoever they wish. If a PTP MP assaulted a police officer at the legislature, the Democrats or other interested parties could request the same investigation. The key here is that it is the 2 Democrats alleged to have assaulted the police officers.

The Speaker was not seeking to indtimidate anyone, but was taking the appropriate measures to ensure that he could carry on in his duty despite the behaviour of the aggressive parties. How can you argue that the Speaker "degraded (sic) the country by being under the control of a law enforcing body"? Do you not understand that the police did precisely what the law says, and that is to enforce the existing civil laws and to PROTECT law abiding officials. Who would you expect to be responsible for law enforcement? Abhisit's courtiers? The police officers acted in a lawful manner to protect the institution of government from a violent assault. This is what they do in all parliamentary democracies. What is shameful is your view of expecting a legislative body to shut down operations because a small number of deputies become abusive and violent. Run and hide if you want, but the government must continue to function. It cannot suspend operations every time a dissenting MP has a tantrum for show. I think it was a total set up. Somsak arranged for the riot police beforehand. Then he denied the right of the Democrats to debate on the bill which he knew would lead to a confrontation.
