British Embassy Bangkok: New Biometric British Passports

In February 2006, the British Government launched one of its most important counter-fraud initiatives, the biometric passport.

Full production will be rolled out at the Embassy in Bangkok between 15 and 26 May 2006. While we will do our best to minimise disruption, but is it likely that new passport applications received during this period will take about 15 working days to process. We recommend that you try to defer from applying for a passport during this period if at all possible. We will keep you informed of any changes to the roll out schedule or of any significant delays in the issue of passports during this period

You really have to wonder why it takes them 15 days to issue this.

Civil Servants, Bah. :o They would never get away with this

So many threads are dedicated to the so-called incompetency and un-business like attitudes of the Thai people, yet I reckon that shower at the British embassy are the biggest load of arrogant, incompetent, overpaid, lazy ######s that ever gathered in one building. They make up their opening hours as they go along, they treat most people, especially Thais, with utter disdain, sell off their land to the highest bidder (that was given to them for nothing by Thai Royalty), and try to pretend that their precious country is God's gift to mankind - judging by the problems they create when someone wants to have a holiday there.

What the hel_l they have to do there except issue passports, stamp visas and visit drug dealers in Jail?

British Embassy? More like Bedlam embassy!

Nuff said. (as dear old Trink used to say). :D

Great news no 48 page passports, that means they can make more money our of us. I go through a 48 page passport every 3 years so i can see me having to make more frequent trips to the embassy... hmmmmmmmmm!

And the "inevitable increase in price" gets my goat.

With modern technology it should be quicker and cheaper.

Well I hope so as I am going on the 25th to try and get a 48 page normal passport before the 15th may so i will let you know how i get on.

OH i do wish you would post the above comments on the

"visas and migration to other countries " forum.

It is run by the most absurdly pro-ECO/BE crowd you could ever find. Would certainly cause a stir there. I should add i agree with you . Although i have always maintained that they are not all B******* , only most of them.

No sooner said than done.

That guy GU22 (or whatever his name is) doesn't by any chance work for the British Embassy does he? Or maybe his Dad's the ambassador? :o

I have only needed to use the consular section at the embassy once, for my Affirmation of Freedom to Marry. (A requirement of the Thai government, btw, not the British.)

I found the staff there to be helpful and efficient, but maybe I caught them on a good day. Then again, maybe you caught them on a bad one.

(Neither I nor any member of my family have ever worked for the diplomatic service in particular nor the FCO in general.)

I have just come back from the british embassy and there is no problems with applying for a new passport at this time.

We must have passed each other somewhere yesterday as I too went and renewed my passport! :o:D

I am a British citizen staying in Thailand on a 32 page (I think if I remember) UK Passport, I'll proberly (MAYBE) going home in May, is this change of passport regulation going to effect me when I enter my own country? hmmm, they may say "Sorry, you don't exist" hahaha. It'll be like the movie Terminal or something. Mind you saying that, I dont think I do exist sometimes! lol

The Passport you have now will be valid until it's expiry date, you do not need to change to biometric until your 'old' passport runs out.

Don't be so harsh... It's exactly the same at the french embassy.

:D

2 weeks minimum (the passports are made in HK).
