Thailand’s Science Ministry to help solve falling rubber prices
By English News

13783772234464-640x390x2.jpg

BANGKOK, Sept 5 – Thailand.s Science and Technology Ministry is being asked to apply and commercialise new innovations using latex to help shore up rubber prices in a sustainable manner.

The National Science and Technology Development Agency, the National Innovation Agency and the Centre of Excellence for Life Sciences have together presented new innovations from latex that could add value to the country’s rubber production.

The innovations include the extract of substance from the latex that could develop into skin whitening products called "facial whitening cream from latex."

The substance could be used to produce facial gel wash and moisturising face serum.

The latex could be developed as floor shock absorber rubber mat and furniture.

Phiraphan Phalusuk, science and technology minister, said Thailand’s rubber production has increased every year but 90 per cent was exported as raw rubber sheet which was low in value.

He said only 10 per cent or 300,000 tonnes was used in domestic factories, so that the falling price crisis is really a crisis of not using the raw materials the country produces in abundance.

The ministry believes applied innovation to produce more products from latex for domestic use could resolve the falling price of latex sustainably.

Mr Phiraphan said his ministry is ready to support product development, production and marketing. (MCOT online news)
