Greetings,

Quick question:

I have had an ED Visa for the past 3 years. It expires on Sept 21 (90 day address check in due the 16th)' I fly to overseas on the 28th.

Is it possible to get a 15 day extension on an ED visa at immigration in Chiang Mai, or is that something only done for tourist visas?

I am trying to avoid the maniacal glories that define a minivan ride to the border, but when I check the immigration website it talked most about the regular 90 day extension regarding ED visas.

Thank in advance for on topic replies!

Cheers!

You apparently have an extension of stay not a visa. You could apply for a 7 day extension (1900 baht) which is the most you can get. Or make a border run to get 15 days.

Eeeek! Thank you for the information! To the border I will go.

It may or may not be to late to get the paperwork completed in time but if you are planning to come back here after your trip then why not apply for a 4th year Ed Visa?

Because there is no such thing as a 4th or 3rd or... year visa. It's an extension of stay or a brand new visa [only obtainable outside Thailand] or a 15 day visa exempt entry or ...

If you are planning to come back to Thailand, extend your visa for 1 more year, get a re-entry permit, then come back. Other wise, your education visa ends when you leave Thailand.

You can go to your immagration officve and ask for re-entry permit if you are wanting to leave before your present visa expires and then come back in. This should notbe a problem and the cost is usually 1900bht.

A re-entry permit (single) is 1,000 baht, but in case of the OP not useful as it doesn't give him any extra time.

As I have been studying Thai for 3 years (as of the 21s) nowt, I have been told by my school that I need to restart the entire ED Visa procedure from scratch, including the 2 days in Lao, 90 day interviews the 1st year and so on... If I decide to go that route again I will do it later after I take some time away. For now I just need to fill in that 2 week gap. Thanks!
