31 days in Thailand (UK)

Featured Replies

Hi

Just a Quick question.

A friend of ours is taking his family to Thailand next year, he as just realised that the total days of the holiday is 31 days, He fly s back to the UK at 02:30 in the morning, Meaning that he will have over stayed by 2.5 hours. I don't think he will have a issue with BKK Immigration if he checks in before midnight, But he may have a problem when he checks in on his outward flight in the UK if they check to see if he as a Visa!!!

Will he need a Visa for the extra Day?

Has he counted the date when his flight is scheduled to land in Thailand as Day 1 of the 31? If not, then the holiday total will be 32 days.

I would think as long as he goes through immigration check point at the airport before midnight he will be fine, I'd check with Thai consulate in home country.

In the past when I take 6 weeks off to spend there i take a side trip to another country, don't forget flying international is a 30 day visa, overland 15 days.

Getting any extension will cost not just money....

But that assumes that he has counted his arrival date as Day 1 of the 31. Maybe the safest thing for him and his family would be to obtain 60-day tourist visas if time and expense permitted?

You do not pay a fine for an overstay of less than 24 hours. If only 31 days by count that includes date of arrival no fine. If 32 days it would be 500 baht per day meaning a 1000 baht fine.

Edit: There have been mixed reports about clearing immigration just before midnight. Some say it worked for them others that they got stamped for the next day because officer noticed departure date on boarding pass.

Contacting a Thai embassy would be a waste of time because they know little to nothing about immigration rules.

He fly s out of the UK on the 5th Jan, Arrives on the 6th and comes back on the 5th Feb, so a total of 31 days in Thailand.

Plenty of time to obtain a Tourist visa then there will be no problem.

If the OP runs into overstay the penalty will be 500bht/day overstay for each member of the family aged 15+ years.

Then no fine will be charged. Just a little blue stamp stating overstay of less than 24 hours that officer stamping you out has on his desk.
