BERNE, Sept 11 – Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has expressed appreciation to the Swiss government for supporting Thailand’s reconciliation process and for buying rice from the kingdom.

In talk with Swiss president Ueli Maurer during her European tour, she said Thailand was determined to strengthen democracy and unity in the country.

She thanked the Swiss government for its constructive role in Thailand’s reconciliation process by assigning a technical expert to work with the Truth for Reconciliation Committee.

Ms Yingluck invited Swiss investors to join in the development of mega projects in Thailand as well as the Thai-invested Dawei deep sea port project on the Andaman Sea in Myanmar, and said Thailand was ready to reactivate trade activities with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).

EFTA comprises Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein.

Ms Yingluck showed appreciation to Switzerland for importing more than 10,820 tonnes of rice from Thailand last year and expressed hope that Thailand would continue to export rice to the country.

The leaders of the two countries also discussed cooperation on tourism, security management, promotion of small- and medium-sized enterprises and management of electronics garbage.

Ms Yingluck is currently leading a Thai delegation to visit Montenegro, Switzerland, Italy and the Vatican. (MCOT online news)

The Swiss dude on the right doesn't seem that impressed, arms crossed angry look on his face

He's probably thinking, "What the heck has she just been babbling about?" or "Give them the small finger and buy a few thousand tons of their rotten rice for cattle feed, and they immediately take the whole hand and try flogging more on you." or "Will this photo op meeting never end? I've really got more urgent things to do."

He didn't want to be there.....he had something important to do.

Maybe he is p&ssed off....he got told a Shinawatra was coming to Switzerland and he thought her brother was coming to stash a few billion in stolen money in the banks there, instead all he got was his bimbo sister bleating on about rice and reconciliation

He's a little confused because yingluck seems to think that swiss people eat Thai rice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This really is a perfect example of her not having the slightest clue of how agribusiness works. Starbucks buys all its coffee from itself in Switzerland to keep profits there. You think they have warehouses of millions of tonnes of rice and coffee and other commodities in Switzerland?

She really has shown herself to be illiterate in multinational business. Great effort.

For a start, it would probably help in reactivating trade activities if they had bothered to spell the names of the countries correctly. (Lichtenstein is a town in Germany, Liechtenstein, on the other hand is the country that is a member of the EFTA).

I'm also wondering why they they have to reactivate trade with these countries. Surely Norway and Switzerland are amongst the richest countries (per head) in the world. Did Thailand have some sort of trade embargo with them?
