visiting an inmate at chiang mai ladies prison

can anyone update me on the protocol and procedures for visting the above please?

have read the archived 2009 thread, and aware there is now a different facility.

particularly interested in how to leave daily necessities and food allowance.

I've had a massage by the lady prisoners who are in training for jobs for when they get out which was really good. Sorry not to directly answer your topic.

Most prison visits run the same. Be prepared with prisoner's name and maybe section (called dans) . Be prepared with your passport. There is an office usually beside or possibly inside the gate to file a request form then you wait outside until the orisoner's name. Outside the prison is a canteen area where they will list things for sale/ to send into the prisoner. If you do it after the isit she can tell you what she needs/wants -she will know the system. There will be a window or room to go and deposit money - she can give your the exact spelling of her name and if there is an ID number necessary too. Word of advice - do not order too much nor deposit very much money (200 B better than 2000) in their account as it draws attention from guards and they will possibly need to hand over a portion.

Have a good visit - she will appreciate it.

Sorry for typos - also be very courteous to the guards - it is all in their hands. And usually the other family/friends waiting are happy to help you figure out the system.

Also there is a locker to put your things in when you go in to talk - always a good idea to bring your own combination lock, many do not have locks and those that do may have other keys floating around.

Its all quite simple - much as set out above. I've never had an issue with the lockers or depositing money for them. The goes into their account for them to draw on as required and receipts are provided to you. With food etc just make sure its packed in a way that it can easily be inspected. Its best to have someone who can assist you filling out the form - all in Thai, but if there's a problem the ladies in uniform I gave found to always are willing to assist.

15 minute visits available Monday to Friday, I believe.not pre-appointed.
