BANGKOK: -- Thailand is still seriously concerned about the crisis in Syria despite eased worry about possible US military strikes there.

Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on its website that the country reemphasised its strongest possible condemnation regarding the use of chemical weapons, saying it is serious international crime and against international norms. The ministry said there is a need for a strong and united response by the international community to hold those responsible to account.

Thailand has called on the United Nations fact-finding mission on Syria to submit its report as soon as possible, and strongly called on the UN Security Council to rise up to this challenge to take effective action on this critical matter and to protect innocent people in Syria.

At the same time, Thailand believed that the international community must continue to explore all avenues for a peaceful political settlement to this conflict to allow the people of Syria to decide their own future through an inclusive and democratic process.

US President Barack Obama, in a rare prime-time television address to his nation on Tuesday, vowed to give diplomacy a chance before launching a military attack on Syria for using chemical weapons on its own people last month.

Syria earlier agreed to a proposal by Russia to place its chemical weapons under international control and then have them destroyed. (MCOT online news)

Thailand needs to worry about its self,who is to say the same

thing could not happen here, the way the Government is trying

to push its agenda through Parliament,without regard for the

other half of Thais who oppose what is going on.

With 3 factions ,the yellows,the reds and the Muslims in the

South,it looks like the strife will get worse before anything

If Thailand is so concerned about innocent people choking to death from poisonous air, how about doing something about the burning and resulting poisonous smoke every March and April in the north of their own country. Take care of your own backyard before you start cleaning up that of your neighbors'.

Foreign ministry condemns use of chemical weapons in Syria

BANGKOK, 12 September 2013 (NNT) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement concerning the political and humanitarian crisis in Syria, condemning the use of chemical weapons.

The statement said Thailand continues to be gravely concerned about the crisis in Syria and stressed that there is a need for a strong and united response by the international community to hold those responsible to account.

The kingdom calls on the United Nations fact-finding mission on Syria to submit its report as soon as possible, and strongly calls on the UN Security Council to rise up to this challenge, to take effective action on this critical matter, and to protect innocent people in Syria.

The ministry further said Thailand believes that the international community must continue to explore all avenues for a peaceful political settlement to this conflict to allow the people of Syria to decide their own future through an inclusive and democratic process.

The statement has been posted on the ministry’s website on Wednesday.

In the latest development, Syria has backed Russia's plan to place its chemical arms under international control.

What are hypocritical behavior…

I know a rich Syrian family staying right now in Thailand and of course they don't want to go back to Syria at the moment.

But no matter how much money they can show Thailand doesn't care at all about the well-being and denies any new visa to them. Only chance to get a new tourist visa for them would be to go back to the home country and ask for new visa in Damascus.

At least if someone can show enough money they should let refugees stay.

Concerned about the use of chemical weapons. That's a laugh from a country that still has not banned the import of asbestos and at present is the worlds second largest importer.

Seventy percent of the pesticides used in Thailand are banned in the West. Seventy three ercent of the agrochemical imports into Thailand are classified by WHO as category Ia (extremely hazardous) or Ib (highly hazardous). Pesticides are also exempt from import duties and business and municipal taxes.

Pesticide ingestion is the second leading method of suicide here in Northern Thailand accounting for one quarter of suicides.

Pesticides are found in 86 percent of drinking water in Thailand. So have a look in your own backyard Thailand before you start sprouting concern (as if) about chemical weapons.
