Do many people swim in the sea fully clothed?

Yes...

And many do not.

Why would anyone want to?

I saw muslim girls inna swimming pool in Jakarta wearing a 'muslim swimming costume' once (sorta looked like the pyjama gear that women wear in VN but with jibab included)...they did not look very comfortable at all...also, when exiting the pool when wet the costume clung to their shape (including dark patches in the pubic area) thereby defeating the intended purpose...

I wear a T shirt in the sea and the pool, :o if i do'nt i burn, even with sun cream on :D

Many Asians swim with clothes on, be they Indonesian, Thai, Malaysian, Balinese etc . . .

We were in Kota Kinabalu last year and after climbing Mount Kinabalu we went ot he coast for a few days and caught a little dive-boat out to an island in the marine reserve.

Several muslim students in their hijabs were on the boat and werre talking excitedly about going diving. Turns out they were KL medical students from Oman, Malaysia, Syria.

When we were diving they stayed on the surface, looking up from the depths they looked like big manta rays. Looked quite surreal.

For native nud_e bathing look at Gaugin's Tahiti.

Just asked the misses why they do it.....her answer is because they're shy, and to do with Thai social customs. I can understand that, and to stop burning as well.
