Requirements for extension of stay for marriage in Thai language

Featured Replies

A friend of a friend is a Thai woman married to a Japanese man and, as far as I can understand, he's been paying some exorbitant amount to a service or lawyer in order to continue his stay in Thailand because they do not understand how to deal with immigrations on their own.

I attempted to explain in Thai-nglish to my friend about the documents needed to prove the validity of the marriage and about the Baht 400,000 in the bank or Baht 40,000 per month per embassy letter and it was quickly obvious that my sketchy understanding of the process (since I've only used the retirement extension) and the limits of our mutually understood immigrations' vocabulary, that we were facing an insurmountable hurdle to comprehension.

I then looked amongst the pinned documents here for something in the Thai language that would offer a fairly simple/basic explanation of just this single matter, but I didn't get very far.

Can someone give me a link or direct me to an explanation in Thai of only the requirements for a foreigner to get an extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai, which I can print out. If possible it should deal solely with the marriage extension. If it deals with too many different options it will probably overwhelm some of us. smile.png

Thanks.

Best is always to contact the local immigration office, they often have a list (in Thai) with the specific requirements for that office.

And of course the immigration website, try the FAQ in Thai: http://immigration.go.th/FAQs/

At least with this information they'll have an idea of what's required and might not feel as intimidated by the process. Beyond helping out by giving them the basic information, I'm leaving it to them to follow through.

Thanks.
