I have a friend who has just started at a new school.

He left his previous school and they agreed to not cancel his WP which runs until the 29 September. His current visa also runs until the exact same date.

His new school will give him a new WP.

His questions are..

Does he need to leave Thailand at the end of his visa and then get a new Non 'B' using the documents from his new school which they will give him. After that he can come back and get his new WP.. which countries are easist to do this..

Can he ask his new school to take his current WP and change the employer and start his new WP, then go to immigration and apply for an extention to his current visa. Therefore not having to leave Bangkok..

Any quick replies would be appreciated as he only has 9 days to get things sorted or arrange to leave Thailand.. also i am not sure if this will make any difference but his nationality Sierra Leone..

Thanks

The first question he needs to answer is if on a 90 day visa entry or extension of stay? Extensions of stay for work would end at the termination date of that work regardless of work permit being returned or not. To add employer requires both to be in agreement and in most cases it seems to be easier to leave and obtain new visa (but not sure if from Sierra Leone.

As these 90 day visa entries with him leaving country each time for a new 90 day entry? Visas are not the same as extensions of stay so best if that is what he has as an extension ends once the specific reason for its issue ends.

He would be making border runs every 90 days if he has a visa.

Unless he gets his new work permit done before his extension (I am sure he has one) ends he would have to leave.

With help from his former employer he could get the work permit done because they would have to agree to the change of employers. They would also have to give him a letter stating his employment ended on the day he goes to imigration with work permit and documents from new employer to apply for a new extension.

If on extension of stay he would have to leave to obtain a new Non B visa.

Employers can be added to a Work Permit, with a letter from the first, but I have never heard of retaining a W.P. while changing locations, as work permtse issued for specific locations, as it appears that the Visas are also.

I Notice in Vientiane when obtaining Non B's name of the school is handwritten above the visa.
