Quick question on car buying

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I can't find a thread on Ito am afraid.

Anyhow, a friend is looking at buying a 2nd hand car, we know the docs needed (letter of residency for seller and buyer, copies of passports, visas, photos etc) and of course the blue book, but there is a but...

The owner of the vehicle had to leave thailand, and has left the car and book with a friend. He has the blue book but no power of attorney or anything. We met the owner whilst he was here so I doubt the car is stolen, but we are wondering how to transfer the car to the new owner.

We assume the owner has to sign a power of attorney (does it need to be original or will scan copy do?) plus copy of passport, but that leaves us a bit stumped on residency certificate and also copy of visa, and probably photos.

Any suggestions on how to do this please?

Cheers

The seller does not need to be physically present for transfer or ownership, but all of the ID requirements remain, and they must have personally signed the transfer forms.

Giving someone else power of attorney seems to be more risky and complicated than just mailing them the forms and them mailing them back signed..
