Next week I go to renew my non-O visa by reason of retirement.
For the past ten years I have renewed using the combination of money
in bank and income, attested to by letters from my bank and the British Embassy respectively.

But this year I became a pensioner and my income has gone up and now exceeds
the minimum requirements by about half as much again, and I have the required
letter from the British Embassy confirming that.

I presume I no longer need a letter from my bank confirming the current balance,
but do I need to show immigration my bank book at all and if so does it need to be
up-to-date that day?

If it's any help, it's Khon Kaen office.

Another question.
My visa expires 25th October each year. But my passport expires
September 24th next year so I know my visa will only run until then.
When I obtain my new passport next year and then renew the visa,
say September 1st 2014, will it then run until September 24th 2015
or only until 25th October 2014 and then I need to renew again after just one month?

I would still take along your bankbook and a photocopy of the front page of your bankbook as well as a letter from the bank stating that you have an account with them and your balance. If your income is more than is required (like mine) then the bank balance is not so important, unless you get a difficult officer, but it's still a good idea to cover every angle, the letter from the embassy stating whay your income is and where it comes from, translated into Thai and stamped by the MoF should meet the income requirement.

With regard to your passport and visa, I saw an advisory that was released a short time ago, perhaps someone else could provide a link, the advisory stated that Immigration, starting in Phuket and expanding across the country would no longer be transferring visa stamps if your passport expires during the period of the visa extension, if you passport expires during the period of the extension you can either apply for a new passport at the time you do your extension before your passport expires, or you can wait till your passport is due for renewal, at which time you will have to go through the whole process of applying for a new visa stamp for the new passport at the same cost you would pay for your annual extension.

Extensions are only issued for validity of passport is the new rule (rather than for a full year with new passport getting the remaining time as previously done).

No need for bank letter. Bank book maybe for back up to income letter if asked for.

Income letter does not need to be translated unless it is not in English. And even then the MFA certification may not be required.

Thanks for that, are you able to provide a link to the new passport validity rules at all? Internet in my area is extremely slow today, grass grows quicker than pages download at the moment.
