CPF denies rumors of bird flu in its farms

BANGKOK, 25th September 2013 (NNT) – CPF has brushed aside rumors of bird flu outbreak in its farms and factories as false.

As a shared “line” message has been circulating related to the topic of bird flu epidemic in Thailand, specifically at CP farms, the Ministry of Public Health, the Department of Livestock Development (DLD), and CP have come out to denounce the message as false, saying there has not been an outbreak in Thailand for a long period of time.

According to Payungsak Somyanontanakul, CP's Deputy Chief of the poultry services and management division, giant conglomerate CPF has always abided by the international standards for farming and evaluation monitoring system. The system features modern technology used in the company's compartment breeding system, which is biologically safe and is 100% free from bird flu and similar epidemics. Moreover, the CPF production system has been regulated by the DLD.

The CPF compartment system does not need a large number of factory workers, as it can be controlled by one person through a computer screen. Besides, in case of an outbreak, the company can not distort the facts to the press and media. CPF also has a Pre-catching Test for its poultry production, collecting specimens from the birds and have them tested in its laboratory to make sure that they are disease-free. Mr. Tritsadee Chaosuancharoen, Director General of the DLD, meanwhile, confirmed that Thailand has not had a bird flu outbreak for nearly five years now, and that the Department has imposed strict control on poultry diseases nationwide including along the border of Thailand.

MASS TRANSIT
Chadchart assures bidding transparency

BANGKOK: -- Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt said Wednesday that his ministry will assure transparency of the bidding of the Pink Line electric train.

The designing of the Khae Rai-Min Buri route is in the final stage and the bidding should start in October, he said.

He added that the format of the 34-km train is being decided - whether it would be a light or heavy rail.

The key issue now, he said, is the bidding procedure, to ensure maximum transparency. It is not finalised yet whether the ministry would first seek the train carriage supplier or a construction constractor.

He noted that whichever, quality must come first.

The proposal would be soon submitted for the Cabinet’s approval.

The 34-km route is one of the projects of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA). Initial schedule is after the bidding in October, the construction contract should be signed in 2014 and the route should commence operations in 2017.
