Can you trust herbal medicine from Singapore?

I was in Singapore and picked up some Tongkat Ali in the airport Guardian store. Its a testosterone booster which is also popular as a libido booster. I got it for working out.

Unfortunately there are a lot of fake Tongkat Ali because the root itself is quite rare.

The brand is called Tong Jum Chew or Nature's Green and sold in Guardian in Changi Airport. This is it: http://tongjumchew.com.sg/products/product_detail.asp?pid=OA

The reason I am asking is because I am certainly feeling the 'libido effect' of this herb already after a couple of doses. Pretty strong effect actually, which maks me wonder if it is the real deal or if it is simply sildenafil/tadalafil aka. viagra/cialis repackaged.

So can you trust that stuff sold in Singapore is legit? Do they test these things or can you claim and sell anything?

Perhaps what is being felt is a Placebo effect !smile.png

I don't think so, unless placebo works in your sleep as well biggrin.png

In short herbal "medicine" is neither trustworthy or "legit" (as in fair dinkum) regardless of where it comes from....most are outside normal medical regulation - so there production is usually unmonitored and their efficacy is just about universally nil.....or no more than one would expect from a placebo.

U brought it from Guardian a reputable pharmacy. + Singapore AVA is very straight on medical and food products. So assured its legit and safe although there's one incident of slimming pills that got slip thru and people died taking it.

There was also a case of Tongkat Ali sold in Watsons were it was actually just sildenafil (viagra or something). So the fact that it is sold in Guardian is unfortunately not enough.

Herbal supp and medicine sold in SG is safe to consume. AVA is very strict about that. However different people react differently to any medication. You should check with your doctor before consuming.

Many "herbal" remedies are in the first place not that. Secondly they can react with other medications to nullify or even make them toxic.

Herbal or alternative products are not made under medical criteria/laws and regulations; they often can have poor hygiene and frequently have wild variations in their ingredient quantities.
