Scott
Thanks for that update. I saw it briefly on CNN, but it didn't quite show it's path into Thailand.
ExpatOilWorker
I've been keeping track of the flood maps at: http://flood.gistda.or.th/ and here are the maps for 5 October: 11 October: and 21 October: If you just look at the maps from day to day, you won't see much difference, but over time, you can see how the floods have progressed. For those of you who don't read Thai, Ayutthaya is at the top of the map and Bangkok is at the bottom. Any new pictures?

siampolee
Don't think we'll have too much to worry about with typhoon Haiyan.if and when it reaches Thailand the power of the typhoon will be lost. Anyway thanks for the information pool slime
Robby nz
It would seem likely that Typhoon Haiyan http://www.news.com.au/world/super-typhoon-haiyan-gaining-strength-set-to-hit-philippines/story-fndir2ev-1226755411772 will indeed have some impact on Thailand, probably in the south, east and central area. Havent looked at the international news yet but it should be hitting the Philippines about now. It will lose some force over land but is likely to intensify again over water in the South China Sea before hitting Vietnam and Lao. When it gets here it will be downgraded to a storm but will still have a lot of rain. May not come to much but worth keeping an eye on for it could impact on the places just getting over the last floods.

george
Hua Hin & Cha-am today Friday November 8: Hua Hin in chaos after heavy rains and strong winds Full story, photos, video: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/680342-hua-hin-battered-by-severe-weather/
Robby nz
The latest I can find on typhoon Haiyan, about 4 hrs ago. http://edition.cnn.com/interactive/hurricane.tracker/index.html?hpt=hp_t1&iid=article_sidebar If this track is correct it will impact east and north east Thailand and will still have winds of 100km ph and a lot of rain. The track shows it doing a swing to the north over Vietnam but should it carry on in a straight line or even curve south then Thailand will cop a lot more of it. It is traveling at around 40km per hr and still has super status after crossing the Philippines, a good chance it will pick up more power as it crosses the open water of the South China Sea. Costal parts of Vietnam look to be in for a bad hit.
getnial wrats
i am impressed how well they predicted haiyan all the way from when it was just north palau up to near hanoi it barely deviated from their first given paths. not often the get it so right for such a long time in advance. still cant find any reports of what it did to palau, that was when it was absolute strong over open water. perhaps palau no longer exists to report in Edited November 11, 2013 by getnial wrats

Scott
It looks like it will not hit Thailand, it is going north up the coast of Vietnam. There was the possibility of rain in the eastern part of Thailand but that was about it.
DrTuner
Pattaya darkside just got hit by a severe thunderstorm, the worst I've experienced here in 7 years. ~20cm of water on the road and this is highland, beware of flash floodings near Pattaya Tai (South road). Still going on.
4evermaat
Chumphon town clear skys and zero flooding....but has been windy here near Thung Wua Laen Beach the last two weeks. Perfect for kitesurfers. Plenty of occupancy on/near the beach for those who need to get away from the flooding. NomadJoe
I believe a tesseban radio truck just passed my house in Rawai broadcasting in Thai that Chalong circle is flooded and impassible. Pretty steady rain and very high tide overnight so makes sense. (This is in Phuket)
NomadJoe
Like a Typhoon outside my house right now. Looks like more wind and rain through mid day. 60kph gusts.
4evermaat
It's been raining heavily also in Chumphon on and off all day....but i think some news report on TV talked about preparing for heavy rains in the southern provinces all weekend. I am unaware of any flooding here, but the winds were strong. Kitesurfers were out when there was no rain....obviously no swimmers. Some of the largest consistent waves I've seen here, but electric current has been on the entire time, only going out for a few minutes about 4 times.....thinking the grid has been updated somewhat or no major damage to knock down a line. Good sign I think.
