Installing New Water Pump and Grounding

Featured Replies

I'm in the market to replace my house water pump and saw today that the Mitsubishi 300W model I was looking at doesn't have a 3-prong grounded electrical plug. Instead, it's a standard two prong with a grounding wire attached to the pumps metal body. The installation diagram shows that this grounding wire is to be attached via maybe an included metal screw to the ground. Is this the standard method to earth/ground these pumps? My pump would sit on a concrete floor...so who to earn the unit...drill a hole through the concrete into the ground underneath nd then what...install a copper grounding rod and attached he pump wire to it?

Anyone installed a Mitsubishi pump recently and can advise?

Also, can't find an online English installation or service manual for this pump...anyone got a link?

Do you have ground going to the outlet? If so, you can cut the electricity, remove the outlet, and attach the green wire from the pump to the green terminal in the outlet leaving the wire route beneath the plate. It may not look the best but there's usually not much needing to look good around a pump anyway.

If you don't have ground in the outlet, well... you could do any number of things to ground or don't worry about.

OR, If you have a three prong outlet that has a proper ground connect to the "third" pin you could cut off the two prong plug and replace it with a three prong plug with the green wire connected to the ground pin. I did this with my two washing machines. Three prong plugs are available at any Home Pro. I also installed a switch on the outlet that my pump is plugged into so I can easily turn it off during brownouts which happen often here.

As for the instructions get the model number off the unit (suspect it is not called 300W) and Google that - perhaps Malaysia source or Singapore for English. You can likely use the below page to find your pump - the product number is the real model number.

No that's for it's a 300 watt model. I've already had a look around mitsu's Malay site and no user manuals...in bahasa or English! Kinda strange but I'll keep googling.

You probably won't find an English version manual your Mitsubishi model...I know I sure didn't find any for my WP255 model which I've had around 5 years. However, as others have recommended connecting the ground to the safety ground in a 3 wire outlet or via spike in the ground will work.
