BANGKOK, Oct 9 - The Thai Cabinet on Tuesday approved a strategy to put an end to the HIV/AIDS problem in the country within 20 years.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Sunisa Lertpakawat reported the weekly Cabinet meeting's results today saying that the body approved a national HIV/AIDS prevention and solutions strategy for 2014-2016, as proposed by the Public Health Ministry.

The strategy set a goal for 2016 targeting the reduction by two-thirds the number of new HIV/AIDS patients in order that the infection ratio in new-born babies can fall be less than two per cent. Patients will also be socially protected and provided equal access to qualified treatment, while the number of AIDS-related deaths should drop by more than half.

The spokeswoman said a budget for the project is expected next year at Bt11.2 billion, rising to Bt11.8 billion for 2015 and Bt12.5 billion for 2016 for continued protection and solutions to the problem and to achieve the United Nations' 'Getting to Zero' campaign.

Between 2011-2015, World AIDS Days will have the theme of "Getting to Zero: Zero new HIV infections. Zero discrimination. Zero AIDS related deaths". The World AIDS Campaign signifies a push towards greater access to treatment for all; a call for governments to act now. (MCOT online news)

Refreshing to see a 20 year plan and not a 90 day plan.

HIV management is getting better, however the best management is not to be infected in the first place.

Here lies the problem, people that already know of the risk are still having unprotected high risk sex. It seems to be a death wish for some.

I don't know how any government is going to stop idiots being idiots.

Good to see that the matter of safer sex is being taken into hands by the government, they are indeed experts in taking matter into hand and coming to a spectacular climax of an end results.

No doubt with the excess of natural rubber Thailand appears to have at this moment in time the number of free condoms in a glorious assorted colours will be made available free of charge to those whose specialised industry may demand the use of condoms or those who pursue such recreational pastimes that requires them taking a risk will be able to avail themselves of the free condoms without any problems at all.

A very rapid rise to fame for this young lady a definite PTP favourite. However, this news seems to be a few months old

"Former PM Thaksin stays overseas and he certainly could not view this drama, so he had nothing to do with this matter," she said.

It's no longer the death sentence it was.People in Thailand only still die of it because they're too embarrassed to seek help.If they only sought help, there are free drugs available to Thais only, that will assist in them leading a normal life with a normal lifespan.

Once again there is far too much money to be made from treating it,rather than curing it.
