Pattaya is what it is. You can take it or leave it. It accommodates a tourist centre that caters in sin. Sin city. There are many of them around the world on every continent. But let's stop pretending that the Farang sex industry is such a disgrace in a country where 90% of Thai prostitutes exclusively service Thai men (not in Nana, or Cowboy, or Patong, or Pattaya).

Line up any 9 middle aged Thai guys and ask them have they got Mia Noi, do they go Karaoke, do they sponsor Beer promoting PG's, do they go for massage, do they help students with their studies!! I bet at least two thirds of them would proudly say yes they do, it is there right to <deleted> around, it is accepted girls are paid in some form or another, it is ingrained in the Siamese culture.

The expat sex centres merely keep activities nicely segregated. I know many many respectable Thais that go to the beaches around Pattaya; they are no different to the thousands of respectable expats that have invested in property and live there.

One final word so it is clear I am not bashing Thais or sex loving expats. The married high flying exec in the city of London meets a beautiful young girl, he gives her the key to his secret love nest flat on canary wharf, and pays her expenses and groceries. Only Thai people has the rights to say whether Pattaya is good or bad because it's their own country. Foreigners definitely have no say. I'm from Singapore and have only been to Bangkok several times but last month was my first time going to Pattaya. I've heard of news whereby foreigners, especially farangs, got cheated of their money by Pattaya women, but that doesn't mean only Pattaya has crimes. Anywhere can be a potential crime scene.

Although a one day trip, I've visited several places like the Central Festival, the beach, Hollywood Pattaya, Walking Street and agogo bar. Perhaps it's true that Pattaya depends heavily on the sex industry, but personally I still respect the people and country there. Inside an agogo bar, I refrain from looking at the naked girls with sleazy eyes but exited peacefully after the show.

I just hope that all foreigners should be mindful of their manners when in a foreign country.

I have had a few long term gfs but enjoy dating. It was impossible to date decent girls in Pattaya as most ( yes most) I would meet were selling their wares or were once in the trade. I went to many different places to meet these girls and also found a few online.... Most were same . The only good girls i found were from out of that area. I have now again moved to Bangkok and although it has its seedy side you can at least find nice girls who are normal. I also hated it when my girl friends would be hit on or asked how much when walking down the street in Pattaya. Too many Thai and farang low lifes all in one small area. Not my cup of tea .....

Why don't the Police in Pattaya 'crack down' on prostitution? it's illegal, socially damaging and steeped in criminality, exploitation and degradation, not to mention the health risks.Beach road on any afternoon is a stomach turning spectacle of decrepit falang picking up issan whores, that's only the tip of the sickening iceberg. I have my opinions on these but don't believe it is my right to impose my views on other people. As an earler poster said. Its a Thai city in Thailand , it is up to the Thais how they want the place to be, and obviously they want it to be a place to make money from tourists of all types.

What I mean is that, yes people may agree pattaya is a sex place, but foreigners should also behave in a reasonable manner ie transact in a peaceful way. Nobody wants to get injured. I saw on youtube a farang who got whacked by many pattaya girls over some dispute, and another video of a farang who got KO-ed in a bar. I'm not a farang but I also think it shouldn't be this case.
