October 15, 201312 yr If you have an apartment in Bangkok and have spent 5 Months there you are hardly a tourist. Try that in any western country with tourist visa rules and you would be denied also. my country , Australia, come to mind. 90 day tourist visa for you , no problem. leave the country for a day or so and re-apply, no way you will get another one. All these ways of staying in Thailand without actually having the right visa annoy the hell out of me i.e. ED visa with no intention of actually studying. If you do not have the correct requirements for a long term visa i.e. retirement with suitable funds. married to a Thai with suitable funds or working here legitimately then you don't belong here other than for a genuine holiday. I have lived in Thailand for 6 years and work here. I never have a problem renewing my yearly visa as I submit the correct paperwork and meet the requirements. If you don't have the funds or the meet Thailand's visa requirements legally then you should not be here as people trying on all these scams to stay here just make life more difficult for foreigners that live here legally. Easy for you. I'm retired and too young for retirement visa. I have more than the monetary requirements and regular income. So what's a guy in THAT situation to do? investment visa. 10 million baht. it would cost you a lot more to retire in america or canada.

October 15, 201312 yr Fly back to Bangkok Get a 30 stamp at airport on the way thru customs Then plan a trip to Laos to apply for new tourist visa this is the answer, its still a free world last I heard despite the authoritarian try hards at the Singapore consulate and some thaivisa posters
October 15, 201312 yr Popular Post I can see her perspective, you don't sound like a tourist to me either. Time to consider other options. Oh give us a break. What are you the tourist police? There are thousands of foreigners who stay long term in Thailand on a tourist visa ... and the government is very well aware of such. I've been doing it for twenty plus years myself. To the OP ... the Thai embassy woman in Singapore is absolutely wrong. Just fly back to BKK, get 30 day stamp on arrival and later go to Laos to get a double entry tourist visa.

October 15, 201312 yr Well, I bet this thread will attract those who are jumping all hula hoops and feel superior standing in the pinnacle of righteousness. I feel that Thailand deserves to see that tourists and others may have other choices...I've been here 12 years with various visas (probably tried every and each one besides the religious one) and now tired of all the bullshit that one has to take every day, from month to month, from year to year. Living among corruption, inadequacy and questionable practices has finally caught up with me. I don't want loose my integrity and moral values being part of disgrace what goes for public service in Thailand. So, after all I have been through, I am selling everything and relocating to good old Europe. You standing on the pinnacle can keep all this to yourselves. Hope you will feel happy in the lovely polluted winds up there. We are all searching for happiness. Good luck in your travels my friend.

October 15, 201312 yr Popular Post wow, happy guys who just have 10.000.000 Baht for investment in thai economy, but there I think more eople, who dont have this amount of money, and also many people don want to invest in a coutry where you have t take a 51% partner who 99,99999% never has any capital, so you pay 100% but you own only 49% in a county where written law has no value and no court working if you are foreigner, only people who are willing to take high risks and not care loosing all their money will invest. you can have a house value 9.000.000 bath but you will not be the owner of the land and you will not get a visa if you not 50 and if you not have 800000 baht on fix account or income. Very crazy to compare thailand to europe or other western country, because if in europe something happen, all the foreigners who are there on visa or as tourist, will have support of police and court within 1 hour. No scams, no loosing houses, apartments or shops like here in thailand, no corruption in this level, so everybody who decide not to put all his money in that economy, land, houses and live here on tourist base is only smart a clever. To write that in Thailand if yo have proper paperword there is no problem and no corruption this is very cynical and I wish you you will get in the same problems like many expat came, innocent but no chance because of thailand and thai justice and corruption
October 15, 201312 yr You have to obtain the rules from an Immigration Lawyer e.g Siam Legal in Bangkok or online. Everyone has to bear in mind though that the granting of a Thai Visa and entry into Thailand is purely at the discretion of the Consulate and the Immigration Officer. In your present position it might be worth renting a cheap apartment in Malaysia or Cambodia then try again in a few weeks.

There is no 90 rule as I wrote in my first post on this topic. See this webpage for info on exempt entries: http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/123/15396-Tourist-Visa-Exemption.html There is also no restriction on tourist visas. The person at the embassy was blatantly wrong with nothing to back up their statement. Tourist visa rules are on this page: http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/123/15398-Issuance-of-Visa.html Hiring a lawyer would be a waste of time and money and you would gain nothing from it.

A lot of nice people stay here in Thailand and have to bend the rules depending on the whims of immigration. Personally i think anyone over 50 or not, that has the money should be able to stay here and retire young if they can. I can not understand why it annoys the hell out of anyone, none of their business, and do not see how it makes life difficult for anyone. More problems caused by guys on a holiday then long term stayers. Got an apartment in BKK and a girlfriend, he musy have money to spend in Thailand, good for everyone.
October 15, 201312 yr Several totally false information posts have been removed - there is no 3 month limit to tourist visa stays in Thailand in any set period of time and the previous policy was only for visa exempt entry and changed when than became 15 days at land crossings.
October 15, 201312 yr But retiring on a tourist visa and working on a tourist visa are 2 different things: #24
October 15, 201312 yr If anybody else have doubts about the 90 days in six months rule here is screen shot of police order 778/2251 that rescinded the previous police order.

Try that in any western country with tourist visa rules and you would be denied also. at least in the European Union it is possible to buy property (including land of course) and therefore get a permit of stay. It is starting from Euro 70,000 ( less than 3 million baht) and enables you to stay in any Schengen country. So what you want to say, that buying property does not make it possible to stay in the Western country you want to stay, is simply wrong. Probably it's not possible for all Western countries but for many. I also don't see where the difference is between someone who is 51 with enough money and want to stay permanently in Thailand and the one who is 41 with enough money and want to stay permanently in Thailand. October 15, 201312 yr Popular Post All Embassies have conspired to make money out of the visa racket and the foreign embassies are in on it.The British Embassy charge GBP50 for an Income Letter (which doesn't have to be translated into Thai) and another GBP50 for confirming that a British Marriage Certificate is genuine (which does have to be translated for a further GBP16).Thai Immigration have cottoned onto to the money being made for the forged documents being produced down Khaosan RoadEmbassies are NOT there to help you - this you will find out if you ever get into trouble - they are there to help themselves.Together with Thai Immigration embassies and consulates they are tax collectors, job creators and profit centresThe hurdles they erect, often at a moments notice as you've just cleared the last one, are simply to prove that you are the trained monkey and they are the RingMasters. So learn to jump the fences and "smile" at the same time.Superiority, job creation and status is the name of the game for as long as they can keep you waiting, producing this that and the other totally unnecessary document, the bigger they become and the smaller you become !Your humble gratitude, your "Kop Khun Krup Mak Mak" as you genuflect and bow out the door when they finally issue your visa is their ultimate triumph and proves, to them at least, that they are superior to you in every way.Just another stupid farang to be ripped off in the LOS (Land of Scams)

I have applied for my yearly retirement at the Phibun Immigration office every year for the past 5 years without any problems. This year was a goat rope. Talk about nitpicking. I figure if they don't want me here, then I will go. There are plenty of countries around the world that will welcome you with open arms.

October 15, 201312 yr No matter how much we each personally believe our presence in Thailand has improved the country, only a Thai passport will give you the absolute right to reside in Thailand.

If 10,000,000 baht safely ensconced in a secure Thai bank account were adequate to qualify for permanent residence or even a long stay visa (under 50 years old) in Thailand, I'd be surprised. And a lot of my buddies wouldn't be making border runs. A 10,000,000 baht investment into a company where you own less than 50% and your accountant and partners and lawyers all have access to the funds- is not quite as secure.
