Chiang Mai to Sukhothai area on public transport?

Featured Replies

Arriving CNX morning of this Monday (21/10) and need to travel to Sukhothai or better Sri Samrong.

Train to Sawankhalok would be ideal. Still working on understanding timetable etc on web. Hoping someone can tell me how often trains leave CM and do all stop at Sawankhalok?

Next option is bus to Sukhothai/ Si Samrong. Easy to do?

Thanks for your time.

Andrew.

if you have any esperience with TH-you would not have needed to ask.

Even IF trains would run, it would not be into SK-thats a side spur with 1 train/day ex BKK.

ANY guidebook has the old-time secret that ANY pair of towns with a good road in between them has a decent bus service.

As about anywhere in TH-buses strat from main busstations.

In this case there are about hourly buses, some ending at Sukh, most going onward to other places, most via the fast road via Tak-some via the older and slower road via Sawankolok, WINtour is the local Sukh bus, but other companies -and ALL are govmt. regulated- serve too. No nasty need for impossible prebooking etc either-just go to Arcade and buy ticket for next bus out. IF very sensitive-determine what type of class you would like-the age-old stories of old-time TV users warning/whining about the orange crush non-AC all relate to a century ago-these buses do not serve these routes anymore. Its all AC-choice of 2d or 1st cl.
