Lite Beer Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 PM Yingluck firm on peace, co-existence with Cambodia ahead of Preah Vihear rulingBy English News BANGKOK, Oct 17 – A posture of peace and public order will be maintained on the Thai-Cambodian border no matter what the international court judgement regarding the Preah Vihear temple border dispute will be, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said today. Her assurances are overtures to Thailand’s friendly approach to the neighbouring country as the International Court of Justice (ICJ) is scheduled to give its judgement on November 11 in response to a petition by Cambodia to clarify the disputed areas adjacent to the Preah Vihear Temple. Both countries claim ownership of the region, while the historic Hindu temple itself belongs to Cambodia.Ms Yingluck said related agencies would give their explanations after the judgement is made but “no matter how the ruling is, we will adhere to peace and both countries must avoid confrontations.”Natthavudh Photisaro, deputy permanent secretary for foreign affairs, said the premier will meet with security and Foreign Ministry officials next Monday to consider a national mechanism between Thailand and Cambodia. An ad hoc committee will also be set up to analyse the ICJ’s judgement, he said, adding that the ministry would enhance public relations on the court case early next month.Nipat Thonglek, permanent secretary for defence, said Ms Yingluck would not need to appear at The Hague to hear the judgement despite her concurrent portfolio as defence minister. He said the situation would be different from the oral hearing in April when then defence minister Sukumpol Suwanatat was present at the Court with the Thai legal team.Measures to keep public order along the Thai-Cambodian border during the ICJ’s judgement will be discussed on October 21, he said. Popular Post soi41 Posted October 17, 2013 Popular Post Posted October 17, 2013 Sounds to me, as Thailand has already been briefed about, that they are going to lose the case! On the other hand, what is a piece of land compared to the friendship of the eternal brother Hun sen? 3
ChrisY1 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Hope she tells her "good" mates in the military, not to lob granades over the fence after the ruling.....! 2
Soutpeel Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 peace, co-existence with Cambodia ahead of Preah Vihear ruling ahead of the ruling..... but what happens if said ruling goes against Thailand ? Throw the toys out the cot again, stamp their little feet, hold their breath till going blue in the face ? "the ICJ is not our father, we dont recognise the jurisdiction of the ICJ" I am suprised YK hasnt volunteered to attend in person, another chance to go on an international jaunt, but then again maybe the shopping is cr*p in the Hague 1
bigbamboo Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 (edited) The odds on a Cambodia win are shortening with every government statement. Still, it's nice to see that Yingluck is advocating peace and love. Edited October 17, 2013 by bigbamboo
jbrain Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 “no matter how the ruling is, we will adhere to peace and both countries must avoid confrontations.” Read : if the ruling is in favor of Cambodia, we will keep occupying the temple, and we will not shoot first.
EvilDrSomkid Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Sounds to me, as Thailand has already been briefed about, that they are going to lose the case! On the other hand, what is a piece of land compared to the friendship of the eternal brother Hun sen? More like they have heard a little bird say the court will find in Thailand's favor. Gracious winner and all?
Neilly Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Nipat Thonglek, permanent secretary for defence, said Ms Yingluck would not need to appear at The Hague to hear the judgement despite her concurrent portfolio as defence minister. Even if she did go I doubt she'd attend...she doesn't attend most of the government sessions in her own country, so why would she do it there

Win Lose or Draw we will have to wait for the skype call to come in to see what we are going to do with the decision.
Robby nz Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Doubt it matters very much as the deals will already have been done for the much more important marine boundaries where there is oil and gas. This temple thing will only be a diversion to cover up the behind the scenes dealings between the those who are really in charge of both countries. If that is the case then the loser in the ICJ case can afford to be magnanimous in defeat as the concessions at sea will already have been divided up and the resulting billions will have a safe place to go out of sight of any tax man. And if anyone still doesn't believe who is really in charge of this country have a look at the last 9 words of the following from todays TV news page. BANGKOK, 18 October 2013 (NNT) - Government Chief Whip, Amnuay Klangpa, the Pheu Thai party had sent SMS messages to remind Members of Parliament (MPs) not to miss the voting in the third reading of Section 190 of the constitution amendment - also noting that Thaksin will not dissolve the parliament. 1
JoeThePoster Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 no matter how the ruling is Such consistency.
