Interior Ministry concerned over Gulf of Thailand being closed off by fishermen

BANGKOK, 23 October 2013 (NNT) - Interior Minister Jarupong Ruangsuwan has reported that National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Adul Sangsingkaew is currently handling the protest situation at the Urupong intersection. He has urged the protesters to maintain peace and not to violate the law.

In regard to whether or not the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has been assisting the demonstrators by providing them with electric generators, the Interior Minister said that the BMA has not responded, but he will continue to press for a clear answer.

The news of the public being urged to gather at the provincial city halls are just rumors circulated by politicians. There have been no reports of any such movements so far, he said.

The Interior Minister also expressed his concerns over local fishermen reportedly intending to close off parts of the Gulf of Thailand, stretching from Prachuap Khiri Khan to Trad province.

Rumors which spread among fishermen that the government has planned to drill for oil in the region were simply untrue. Concerned that the fishermen protest might be politically motivated, Mr. Jarupong has ordered provincial governors to keep a close watch on the situation.

Do the writers of these articles and the writers of the headlines work in different parts of Bangkok? The photo and first 3 paragraphs have nothing to do with fishermen. The articles must be written by kids.

Agreed, the headline may as well be............

Interior Ministry concerned over choice of wallpaper.

Big brother is watching you. P.T.P.. puppet government democracy in action.

Does or would anyone in their right mind(s) ( no matter how many they have or how small they are) actually believe that the fishermen could block the Gulf of Thailand?

Yet another symptom of a frightened paranoid puppet master and his puppet government, anything to draw attention from the current bills before parliament.

It could be that once transliterated there is no difference between Red Hearing and red herring, rather like craft and graft.

Reminds me when seekingthe German brewery at Don Muang airport.

Upon asking directions to the brasserie,I was told TAT for TIT

See? If the Navy had their submarine fleet in place this wouldn't be a problem.

Good chance to get the aircraft carrier out.

It would probably take a couple of years just to get the engines started.

Could use it to take all the deadwood MPs for a cruise, say somewhere off Pearl Harbour.----no smileys--smile please

Fishermen close the Gulf?

How would they do that?

If they want to stop the oil drilling than it is of course political motivated, what else.

And the oil there is long discussed, in the trat region it also has border issues with Cambodia which the PAD connect since a long time with the temple issue.

If Oil is expected there of course the government or some contractor will drill for it. If you look at naval charts from Koh Samui south till Malaysia the gulf is full with oil or gas rigs.

So either it is wrong translated, or that guy lies, or he has no clue what he is talking about.

Here's a big porky:

"Rumors which spread among fishermen that the government has planned to drill for oil in the region were simply untrue"

Maybe just a little white lie.

The government won't be drilling - it'll be the highest bidder after a fair and transparent bidding process. The winner will be Shin Corp Oil and Exploration.

PTT is a state-owned enterprise - an NOC

PTT stands for Petroleum Authority of Thailand

Do you mean out of hock? Who would pay for the diesel and gas? No US ships around to cadge off of.

Anything which keeps local fishermen from fishing has to be good. Normally they are in the process of totally depleting local fish stocks and devastating the seabed.

Along with 'The news of the public being urged to gather at the provincial city halls are just rumors circulated by politicians. There have been no reports of any such movements so far, he said.'

Anyone read BP's headline today?
