BANGKOK: -- People living in six southern provinces should brace for heavy rains, possible flash floods and runoff today and tomorrow, Songkhla weather bureau reported yesterday.

The warning was issued to people living in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat - particularly those living in mountainous areas, close to rivers and waterways. The centre also advised all vessels in the Gulf of Thailand to proceed with caution as strong winds and waves were also anticipated.

Meanwhile, the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department yesterday reported that flooding continues to affect 533,776 people in 16 provinces. A total of 1,529 families in Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani had also been forced to evacuate their homes.

Officials in Chachoengsao's Bang Kla district, which has been swamped by floodwater of up to one-metre for over a month, said yesterday that water had subsided.

Some 45 provinces have been hit by flooding since Sept 17, resulting in 80 flood-related deaths to date.

Hi-so doing her thing,to help the poor

Government mandated photo-op, replete with smiling, fat local government stooge, the local army wonk and someone's rich-b!tch with the obligatory, genuflecting and deeply waiing prole.

and what is wrong when someone rich trying to help? If you would see only poor labor on the picture you would complain that the rich stay cosy at some expensive resort and doing nothing to help.

If you see them you also complain.

Thailand: the hub of Darwinism in action.

Sorry h, I left my saffron shades on the dresser this morning.

I usually wear them, especially around January when the cold snap hits Isaan and there's all these 'special' blankets getting handed out by smiling officials to the clamoring adulation of loads of genuflecting and deeply waiing proles. It must make you feel right proud as well no?
