Ceiling height, how high is to high?...

What's your thought on ceiling heights, is higher better? We can go to 4 metres, but I think maybe that's a bit of overkill.

Will depend on length and width of the space. Will not do to have a high ceiling like a shaft.

I have visited top floor condos-some having very high ceilings..

In spite of the condos being large being -approx 200 M the high ceiling gave a cathedral atmosphere ..

Suspect that typical height is around 2.5M

Since cool air goes down, you don't actually have to cool the whole height. Mount your A/C unit at about 2.5m then, provided you don't stir the air in the upper space with a big fan, it will stratify.

there is also a question of esthaetics - while 250 to 280cm is fine for small rooms, larger rooms need higher ceilings, around 350cm to not give an oppressive feeling.

Aircons are generally placed 2m high on the wall.

High ceiling rooms often are bigger. You do have some interchange between cold and hot air so it does increase your airconditioning bill. But it will be only about 10-20%.

As soon as you do not have vents and use fans to help circulate the room then the aircon will be on a lot longer.

I choose 3.60 because most building material comes in increments of 60 cm (or 125cm).

I think the OP is looking at the design of a suspended ceiling, and not the structural floor to floor height.

The ceiling in my living room is 5.3 meter high, Cathedral style, and I have 3 fans at 2.7 meter high as well as 2 x 18000 Btu aircons. Living room is 8.7 x 5.4.

The most I have used in the 2 years I'm living is the fans at the lowest speed. Never have used the aircons so far.

We have similar ceilings JB (stand fans though), aircon at about 2.5m. lounge A/C has never been used, bedroom only at night set to 28C.

Haven't you noticed yet that many Thai's, my wife included, do not clean anything above their line of sight The stove and counter tops immaculate, the top of the fridge is another story!

perfect for me are 3.60m but i also like JBrain's high living room ceiling. my home in Germany was a "gallery house" slanting from 3m to 8.60m. American and Thai home have both 3.60 ceilings except for two passages which would look very odd if they were higher than wide.

i assume you don't like more than one team of aircon technicians working at the same time in your home?

How you know Naam. Currently I have technicians from 2 different aircon brands performing warranty jobs at my place.

So far no fan company had to come around for any issues

We have 3m to the top of the walls but then no ceiling so a further 3m to the apex. Basically an open roof to the tiles.

The inside is lined with silver foil stuff and plaster board but it helps the air flow, keeps cool and looks impressive.

What your picture shows is half of a cathedral ceiling. Plaster board is what is called a ceiling.
