At the moment, going north on the bypass is not really a problem, but southbound in the evening rush hours is a nightmare.

There is one section where the southbound road narrows down to one lane plus the hard shoulder at about 200m before the Tesco lights, this is a literal bottle neck.

The lights section is still three lanes and empties quickly, but this 2 lane feed section cannot fill up the 3/4 lane lights section quick enough, so the number of cars getting over the green lights per cycle has considerably reduced.

Looks like they have already tried changing the main/cross over light green duration ratios, reducing the time crossing to/from Samkorng to try help alleviate the problem, but it just makes for more tail backs on that road as well.

At Central the Police (to their credit) have figured out the problem and wave vehicles accross the lights for long periods after the southbound lights go red, which has helped a lot with the southbound problem there.

Obviously the reduction in southbound traffic flow, which is now backing up the bypass has further helped at Central.

North bound at Central remains a nightmare and has produced a 'must avoid road' there, it will be doubtless be twice as bad north bound at Tesco, when they narrow this section down to two lanes.

These underpasses are useless. The traffic will just bottleneck at the end of bypass as you get to the stupid Boat Lagoon uturn lights and going south past Phrompan.

Nothing like speeding out of an underpass into a wall of traffic.

In Patong the way from Makro (Nanai) to Nanai Soi 2 took me about 15 minutes this afternoon. Now you beat this!

Last night from Dons BBQ (ish) to JUngceylon took me 25 mins!

Traffic this week has overall been the worst I can remember since I have been in Phuket. Schools are returning but it's not yet high tourist season.

I have had the misfortune to be stuck at the Tesco junction twice and it is horrible. The road near PSU is closed meaning the new mountain road is jammed as well. Even the back road behind Sirikul Stadium was totally blocked when I used it.

I still believe the underpasses are a waste of money and will have minimal effect to the overall traffic problem which is quite simply caused by there being too many vehicles on the roads.
