SlingBox's SlingPlayer, SlingMedia not working in Win 7

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have used my SlingBox Solo very successfully for the past 5 years using Windows XP (with all SP's and updates).

I have recently decided to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate due to XP's MS support being dropped in the near future. SlingPlayer was the first program I installed,

Unfortunately, I have not been able to successfully connect and stream anything. I seem to connect through log-on but no streaming.

I have tried turning Windows firewall off and on ...... no help.

I have tried Norton360 as a firewall........ no good.

If you have experienced this problem, found a solution, please tell me your solution. PLEASE.

If you have suggestions..........PLEASE let me know.

My hair's on fire and I'm pulling it out trying to get this sorted out.

SLING support is useless.......

Thanks

I'm afraid but norton is imho your problem. Norton 360 is *utterly, useless, and a piece of crap* sue me if you want, you will loose. the software installs an additional network stack inside windows. yeah i know, that is complicated, but there is an easy way out.

Go to google.

serach for norton removal tool.

download. run reboot.

i hope that you did not gave them money.

your win firewall will work, now.

Download AVG or AVIRA and scan your PC. Delete the virii.

Have fun watching your box.

I still cannot connectsad.png .

In Slingplayer itself I get: error 0x92340011 and don't know how to fix that. Suggestions?

In the WebPlayer I get error codes W211, then W201 followed by W202.

I have also tried running SlingPlayer in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode. It works fine in my XP installation, dual boot, same machine.

Anything else I can try?

Thanks

sounds like you have a port forwarding issue on the sling box end. Get to another pc login to confirm. I use win 7 for years without issue ....

Do Sling still have online support? When I first installed mine and had problems, I contacted them and they came in through remote access and fixed everything for me.

What version of the Sling Player are you using ?

I am using version 1.5.0.325 with Win 7 Home Premium with no problems. In fact am up in CM and using it on the hotels WiFi watching Monday Night Football with no problems

Hope you have someone in the US that can turn it off and then back on again since it needs an occasional re-boot if you cannot connect

You might want to go to this web site where Sling box owners offer self help, since like others have said, Sling support is useless

http://support.slingbox.com/get/KB-2000296

Or a better resource is :

Since they cover the whole area and have a Slingbox owners subforum

I am now dual booting my system, XP and WIN7 Ultimate. I can connect without issue on XP, which I used for the initial SlingBox Solo installation.

Installing Slingplayer on Win7, no matter what compatibility mode I use, Firewall on or off, it just will not stream properly.

Thanks, though.

Have you tried SlingPlayer 2.0.1522? Wonder if you would have problems.

I've been on the Slingbox support site, posted my issue and looked at everything. No luck for me.

The placeshifting site is interest, I do not see the answer there. I probably should post a question there as well.

I am beginning to feel it is, quite possibly, a firewall issue and I need to install something other than Norton360 or the native Win7 firewall.

I have no problems in XP with the SlingPlayer and the XP firewall.

Thanks for the suggestions..........much appreciated.

I have been through these issues and you are going to have to run sling player set up on the other end or have someone with a known working win 7 version working test and confirm it for you then change your password. This way you can know for sure which end the problem is on....

I had this issue that anyone in the usa could stream flawlessly but i was getting errors here in thailand and couldnt log in. Finally we had to go and change the modem parameters for it to work properly.

My next issue were disconnects and you can follow this link which has given me 99% uninterrupted streaming.... http://placeshiftingenthusiasts.com/forum/slingbox-and-your-network/closing-the-tcp-port/

I also have a on off timer which powers down the slingbox for 45 minutes every day...

If you think Norton 360 is the issue just disable its Firewall and Antivirus functions for X-minutes to see if that fixes the problem.

SlingPlayer has never worked. Not even on a fresh install of Win7.

I did install Norton360 think, hoping, a different firewall might work. No good, so I un-installed it, and ran the norton removal tool twice.

Stuck.....no hair left burning.........just smoldering smoke.

No, I refused to upgrade to Sling Player 2.0+ because that version started making you go through Sling Media's servers and being naturally suspicious I don't trust them not to sell my viewing choices to the various rating agencies, such as Nielson . The 1.5 + version is the last version that connects you directly with your Slingbox and does not require accessing a server to obtain your content

My opinion is that Sling Media is and has always been aftaid of repercussions from the content providers about their copyrighted material. By going through them they have a record and can prove that you did not copy and post the material. Have never found a satisfactory way to copy anything from the Sling Player feed, since Sling Media uses a proprietary encryption system to prevent copying

Everyone has their opinion and that is mine and I have been slinging for the last 7 years from Thailand without any problems once I figured out a way to remotely re-boot my Slingbox

Yankee99-

I am going to have to check with a friend in the states as to whether he used XP or Win7 when he moved and possibly re-installed the Slingbox there.

I'm quite certain he opened port 5001 on the router there.

Does it really make a difference whether he used Win7 or XP? Isn't the installation the same either way?

In the link you provided, it sounds like you "You should be able to force SNATT by setting an outbound rule in Windows Firewall to block TCP destination port 5001", as slinguist said and that worked for you. First, what is SNATT, and how does one go about 'blocking TCP destination port 5001' in Win7?

Wait. Wait..........while looking through one of the threads: http://placeshiftingenthusiasts.com/forum/slingplayer-for-windows/how-to-see-your-slingbox-stats-live/ I tried looking at the slingplayer, I did the ALT-SHIFT-I to see the stats and suddenly it was working just fine. But WAIT WAIT......I shut it down, restarted Slingplayer, tried connecting and used the ALT SHIFT I command again but.........nothing, no way, no how.

Jeeze.......what gives.

Ok you can not check in the usa i know this doesnt make sense so you need to check here in thailand just because it works in the usa does not mean its properly setup...

If you have someone on the sling end there is a port forwarding program that will check if the port is open.

Ah, but I do have it working here perfectly...........on XP (SP3), I am attempting to migrate to WIN7 as it is a better OS and the fact that MS is discontinuing support for XP next year.
