Yeah Sunshine, I really feel that it is a good investment that will last until I am in the ground. May as well enjoy using the right tools and not be out in the field wishing I had not sacrificed quality for a few extra bucks. That doesn't mean I am ready to buy a Phase One however! 1
MJP Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Induro CT414 8X and BHL3 head just arrived. It was expensive, but far more of a tripod than I ever expected. Only need to use three leg sections, if you extend the fourth it's way high. Tubes are massive. Quarter turn to lock/unlock. The centre column locks down easily to make it as steady as a systematic. Head is perfectly smooth, locks down very firmly with minimal effort. The spider seems to be made from some sort of extraterrestrial material. The whole rig is rock solid. It's incredibly light too. Got the Benro multi-row pano head on it. Looks wild. 1

MJP Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 As in really light. 3.57 kgs. But doesn't even feel that when handling. Tripod 2.9 kgs. Head 0.67 kgs It's big mind and very rock solid welded to the floor stable.
Fiddlesticks Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Looks like a very nice piece of gear. Good luck with it. I am sure it will last many many years!
sunshine51 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Told ya you'd love it! Either way the Induro or the RRS are great choices. Just remember with the Induro to not crank down the leg locks too much. If you do they can wear out pretty quick in a couple years...just tight enough to not allow the leg(s) to move down under load is fine. Have fun!
MJP Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 ^^ See what you mean. To take a couple of kilos the leg locks can be left fairly slack, no need to really tighten. You were spot on. This is the right bit of kit for my needs.
sunshine51 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 ^^^ Ahhhhh...actually don't leave em "slack"....gravity works slowly but constantly grasshopper. Just tighten enough for the locks to come to a snug stop...no need to overtorque em!
