webfact
Thai Prime Minister visits Pattaya following Ferry DisasterPATTAYA: -- Thailand’s Prime Minister, Yingluck Shinawatra, the sister of former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, visited Pattaya on Tuesday to oversee the ongoing investigation into the recent Pattaya Ferry Disaster which saw 6 people die and over 100 injured, 15 seriously. The PM attended a meeting at the Siam Bayshore Hotel close to the Bali Hai Port at the south-end of Pattaya Beach. The Governor of Chonburi Province, Khun Komsin, presented an overview of the current marine safety arrangements for Pattaya Bay and it quickly became apparent that the number of current harbor department officials employed to oversee safety at the Port was inadequate and the department asked for an extra budget of 15 Million Baht to purchase two new patrol boats and to employ an additional 24 support staff and patrol officers to ensure that Marine Safety is improved. The estimated additional running costs for these new boats is 9 Million Baht per year. Other safety improvements which are set to be implemented were also discussed at the meeting. The PM was also told that all medical expenses for those injured is being covered by the government and compensation payments for those who are injured and for the families of the deceased are being processed.Full story: http://www.pattayaone.net/pattaya-news/108218/thai-prime-minister-visits-pattaya-ferry-disaster/-- Pattaya One 2013-11-

You hit that nail right on the head. She can't stand the heat in Bangkok, so she comes here to get flowers. While, IMHO, the PTP MP's and Senators continue to lie to the public about the coming disaster there.

hellodolly
PATTAYA: -- The Thailand Prime Minister female clone of Thaksin Shinawatra, Yingluck Shinawatra, visited Pattaya on Tuesday to oversee the ongoing investigation into the recent Pattaya Ferry Disaster which saw 6 people die and over 100 injured, 15 seriously. Thousands die in the South and she goes flying around the world on shopping trips seeking photo ops. She couldn't oversee making a cup of instant coffee. Spalpeen
They have the gall to say they need more staff to sit around and do nothing (other than collect envelopes)? How many are currently paid to do nothing? My thoughts exactly. They don't need more boats to check the number of passengers on each ferry, they just need a man on the pier with a clicker. They don't need boats to check the ferry captains for drink and drugs. They don't need more boats to check certification and training. The sea rescue centre centre at Bali Hai has plenty of boats, including a disused hovercraft. Just drive by and count them. I'm appalled that the governor is just using this disaster to blag more money out of the government. You can be sure that nothing will be done about the real safety issues here.
Basil B
"The PM was also told that all medical expenses for those injured is being covered by the government and compensation payments for those who are injured and for the families of the deceased are being processed." and no doubt an amnesty for the boat driver and owners. Seriously what would her presence there in "overseeing" the rescue operation aid in any way? She probably doesn't have a clue in rescue operation and procedures obviously so she couldn't organize the various teams in the operation at all. They should have written she was there to show support and sympathy.
