Could be worse. You could live on the wrong side of Sukhumvit (like those poor souls around the resevoir).

When ever it RAINs, they pretty much lose all contact with the outside world ! (Not that anyone really notices) :D

today: 139 kilobits per second with TOT goldcyber (1024/256)!!! That's a nap!

what do you think, will the speed change soon, or better don't worry and change to the 256kbps package? :D

I think going in their office complaining or calling will not change anything (as always in Thailand). :o

the TOT service is really the worst I've ever seen around the world. Congratulations TOT !!! :D

Try this on. My phone and internet connection have been hooked up since January. 3 weeks ago, the woman that runs the laundry on the bottom floor of the building, applied to have a new phone installed in her shop.

Thursday, I check my email and post a few witty responses on Thai Visa, then stroll over to the TukCom computer store to buy a printer. I'd been thinking about this for awhile and finally decided to bite the bullet. I knew the machine and the shop I was going to get it from. TukCom is about 2 blocks from my place.

Total time from departure to return was maybe 30 minutes. Hooked up, set up and tested my new printer. Tried to get on the net as I had to print some paperwork sent by email. Not network connection. Hmmmmm, worked OK an hour ago.

Check connections, everything is fine. Reset modem, reboot computer (a couple of times). No luck. Pick up telephone, no dial tone. Called my landline from my cell just to be sure. No joy.

Oh well, go downstairs. Laundry lady informs me that she just had her phone hooked up, but it wasn't working either. Gave it an hour, went up and tried again. Still no joy. As I was heading downstairs, I looked at the line running from my place down to the main lines.

What a surprise ! My telephone line had been cut ! Plain as day I could see the where they had snipped it. Why I asked myself. Looked a liitle more and lo and behold !

My line had been pulled and re-routed into the laundry shop ! I went down and told the landlady, and just to be sure, I called my landline from my cell again, and sure enough, her phone started ringing !

The SOBs cut my line and fed it into her shop ! They were then going to re-assign my number and give her a new one !

She and the landlady made a few sharp, not so nice phone calls and the next morning a different crew came out and fixed the problem (rather quickly too).

The good news is my connection doesn't seem to be adversely affected by this. Makes you wonder about the people doing the work though. :o

I have ADSL from TOT, supposedly 512/256. The actual speeds I have recorded have varied from as low as 7 to as high as 700. Earlier this afternoon, I was getting just below 500 with one browser window open.

I'm getting some weird readings on CAT 2Mb HiNet: 244 download/740 upload

A ping round trip is also important when wanting to know speeds to different websites.

If it's any consolation, my Loxinfo Ipstar connection at 4,400 Baht a month has been out of service pretty much all day, and is still out. (I'm using dial up at the moment).

Loxinfo admit 'there is a problem', hopefully fixed by tomorrow.

Tomorrow I'm going to TT&T to see if I can get the Premier 256/128 connection at 1090 Baht/month. I just have to lie about my location. :o

The fun and joys of life in a 4th world country. :D
