Non imm O visa for foreign spouse of teacher

Featured Replies

I wonder if anyone can advise me, my situation is complicated: I am a British national working as a teacher here in bangkok, i have work permit and non imm b visa, have been here for over 1 year and my contract/visa/permit extended. My husband is kenyan and attempted to make a non imm o visa with the support of my employer, we have all the correct paperwork required and i work for a well known university. The problem is he went to KL malaysia and was told point blank that they no longer issue any kind of visa to kenyans ( not even a tourist visa) therefore my husband is stuck in Malaysia unsure what to do, i am currently 7 months pregnant, to add to the complication. My main question is this can he go to Hong Kong/Singapore/Laos to make this visa or is his only choice to go back home? He has stayed in thailand previously on an education visa as he was studying. thanks for taking time to read my dilemma.

He could try to get a transit visa that would give him a 30 day entry. But he might have to show a ticket out of Thailand to Kenya to get it.

Edit due to accidental post. The only place he can get a visa is Kenya. He like many others can only apply for a visa in their home country.

Did you try to change the reason for his extension from education to one as your dependent at immigration before he left. This should of been possible.

Thanks for your response, he has already attempted that one, basically the embassy in KL is giving no type of visa to him, they would not explain why, he has used the embassy before when he made the ED visa no problems, change in policy again even though i rang ahead of him departing and was told it was possible.

yes we went to immigration here in bangkok and was refused the extenstion, they told him to to a bordering country to apply, they did not explain why. So you think that no other thai embassy will allow him a o visa?

You could try contacting the other nearby embassies and consulates. I would try Penang or Kota Bharu first sine he would not have to leave Malaysia to get there.

There are links to all of them here: http://www.thaiembassy.org/main/

You could try contacting the MFA consular affairs department.

For sure try Penang as he is already in Malaysia and KL has recently become very conservative with visa issues (have not seen same reports from Penang). But as said some nationalities are only able to obtain visas from the Consulates serving there home countries and such changes are often not reported.

Thank you for your help, i have attempted to contact some different embassies in the region but none are answering calls, i rang through to the MFA and they gave me a blanket answer of no visas any where of any type will be issued to him, but i think he will try to get to penang and try as he is close by. really appreciate your responses, its a very stressful experience and now i doubt if thailand can be the best place for us, the treatment of certain nationalities is awful, all you want is to have the facts in order to make decisions.
