Death toll hits 26 in central Vietnamese flooding

Hanoi - Four people were reported dead in central Vietnam floods Sunday, bringing the total in the past three days to 26, with another six missing.

The flooding was brought on by up to 800 millimetres of rain in and around Binh Dinh province on Friday and Saturday, according to the Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Centre.

"I have never seen such a large-scale flood in Binh Dinh province in the past 30 years" Phan Xuan Hai, director of the province’s Committee for Storm and Flood Control, told dpa Friday.

Some waterways were running 2 metres above their normal level, the centre said.

Floodwaters have hit thousands of houses and cut off several areas. Authorities evacuated about 70,000 people, but thousands remain stranded. The military has mobilized helicopters to help.

Flooding in Hoi An, in Quang Nam, province forced thousands of foreign tourists to evacuate, with many navigating the streets of the historic town in small boats.

Authority said waters were withdrawing, but very slowly

There are catastrophes anywhere. Just 2 weeks ago, the super typhoon Haiyan killed thousands of people and destroyed almost all houses in Tacloban and other nearby provinces in the Philippines . It is like a complete demolition.

Although not all, many countries in the world extend their helps. It is a heart-touching and tear-shedding sympathy from other countries. Thanks God, for those helping hands...

The death toll has now increased to 36. It comes from Typhoon Haiyan when it turned into a Tropical rain depression and hit Vietnam and went up to China. I feel there will be a larger death toll in the end.
