Chalerm does not believe Constitutional Court will rule against Pheu Thai government

Bangkok, 19 November 2013 (NNT) – Labor Minister Pol. Cap. Chalerm Yubamrung does not think the Constitutional Court will rule against the Pheu Thai government ruling, on November 20.

Pol. Cap. Charlerm, accompanied by his team of lawyers, spokespersons, and political analysts, expressed his confidence that the Constitutional Court would not find the Pheu Thai government guilty of overthrowing the Kingdom’s regime.

Moreover, should mob leader Suthep Thaugsuban and Democrat Party leader Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva continue to protest and close off roads on November 24 as promised, he would seek an arrest warrant for the two for treason and attempting to topple the current government, added Chalerm.

Defiant lawmakers to challenge Constitutional Court

BANGKOK: -- A total of 312 lawmakers today declared not to accept the judgment of the Constitutional Court which is scheduled to hand down its verdict on the amendment to the Constitution regarding the composition of the Senate tomorrow.

The lawmakers comprising MPs and Senators were led by the Pheu Thai party’s Lopburi MP Amnuay Klangpha and Kamphaeng Phet Senator Krich Arthit-kaew.

They said that whatever the verdict of the Constitutional Court would be, they would not accept, reasoning that the lawmakers have the right under Section 291 of the Constitution to amend the Constitution.

They said the Constitution does not empower the Constitutional Court to check the working of the lawmakers, adding that the Constitutional Court’s acceptance of the petition to interpret the amendment constitutes a gross intervention of the Legislative power.

The Constitutional Court has earlier accepted the petition from the opposition party MPs to interpret whether the amendment of the Constitution regarding the composition of the Senate breaching Article 68 of the Constitution or not.

The amendment was supported by the ruling Pheu Thai party though it would be strongly attacked by the opposition party MPs that it would bring about the so-called “husband-and-wife” Parliament.

The amendment has been endorsed by the Parliament and now was forwarded by the prime minister to His Majesty the King for final approval.

Highlight of the amendment is the increase of the number of senators from 150 to 200 and all are to be elected. Prior to the amendment the Senate comprises 150 senators – 77 of them from election, and 73 from appointment through selection process.

So far every member of the government and its associated lackies have scored amazing own goals. It's Charlem's turn now.

If you think the anti-gov protests are bad now. Let's see what happens when the news and the newspapers are full of pictures of suthep and Abhisit sat surrounded by top brass police smirking at their folly.

This is going create an explosion of protests that will totally dwarf anything we are seeing now. The people may likely turn on the police, and we already know the police can't handle that. But they will definitely turn on the government.

This will also get a lot of coverage in the west, which will show Thailand what true democracies think of them (I hope).

Charlem needs to be careful of what he wishes for. Because come the 24th Nov, we might just see some huge fireworks going off. Take out AV and ST and that will complete the dictatorship. I expect to see some huge turn outs at the rallies on Saturday 23rd.

Haha reasoning that Article 291 allows them to do whatever they want... Well, yes, that might be the case. However, Article 68 allows the Constitutional Court to rule on it, should it be petioned to do so.

BANGKOK: -- Labour Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung said Tuesday that he has been assigned by the prime minister to monitor the anti-government protests by various groups.

Chalerm said the situation control room of the protests has been set up at the Labour Ministry.

The situation monitoring officials will hold a meeting at 10 am everyday, Chalerm said.
