Lite Beer
UDD to call off rally BANGKOK: -- The United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) will urge the government to rewrite the whole Constitution now that the Constitution Court has killed the government-backed draft constitutional amendment. UDD chairwoman Thida Thavornseth said the UDD was not satisfied with the court’s judgement although the court has spared the Pheu Thai party from dissolution which she described as just a partial victory. The UDD, she said, remains committed that the charter must be amended and she urged the government to write a new charter to the existing one which was crafted by an assembly created by the coup makers. The UDD chairwoman stressed that the red-shirt movement’s position towards the Constitution Court remains unchanged – which is that kit it continues to reject the court and its rulings. She nevertheless thanked the court for not dissolving the Pheu Thai party and not punishing all the 310 MPs and senators who supported the amendment. The UDD, she disclosed, will announce to red-shirt followers its political standpoints regarding charter amendment and other political issues at about 8 p.m. after which the rally will be called off. Pi Sek
The whole idea of merging the administrative and legislative branches was undemocratic and, if you guys are supposed to represent democracy, then you've just won - no need to look as defeated as you look in the OP photo (except Jatuporn, who is wearing his fake political smile). You can go home now and start looking for real jobs. Unless of course, "fighting for democracy" was just a ploy all along.
lemoncake
Well they did claim to have 30 000 people but only 1500 turned up. So wiser to save the face and back down than fall down in the mud, face down. Funny enough was the choice of words, which was not to accept the ruling, yet thanking the judges. If one does not accept the ruling, there is no need to thank

h90
Due to lack of support. Has Thaksin turned into a Cheep Carlie? Money goes to the leader, they distribute to the subleader who distribute to the group leader. If they get the feeling that their service is soon not needed anymore (because Thaksin loose everything or because he win everything) than these pocket more themself. It might be the last time to make good money. (just a theory)

I would guess the only reason the court didn't ban the 310 MPs was to avoid any bloodshed on the streets. So how will this all end? PTP won't survive this, But it could drag out longer than in 2010 unless! Which is anyone's guess?

It's important that Peua Thai stay in government as long as it takes for the failed rice scam to come home to roost. It seems likely, however, that if the massive loan scam is blocked by senate or courts, the best bet for the "man" in Dubai would be parliamentary dissolution and new elections. Why doesn't he just call it quits? Yes, I know, the word "lose" - a good Thai term would be ปราชัย prachai, ' to be routed, to be beaten, to be defeated, to suffer defeat, to lose' - isn't (or wasn't) in this loser's vocabulary... Maybe he is learning it now? Edited November 20, 2013 by dru2
Soi Sauce
Maybe, they don't wanna die for the rich anymore. Interesting, however, that the payments for rice have stopped, the farmers are poor, and the gov has given an extended New Year's holiday. No cash? No work? Come to BKK, we will give you food and booze, coz you've nothing else to do and no income because we lied to you. Burn Bkk again, and we will make false promises about you being rich in 6 months then steal your land. BTW; when people die this time, it will be your gang doing the shooting at you. I'm sure you can find RED in the word, SERVITUDE.

If PTP stays in power, they are the ones to answer for what is to come, sadly i do not think they see it that way.

They can't run it through parliament in a trice, they can't get the rice stuff to pay off, they can't get hold of their 2.2tn, they can't get Abhisit on a murder charge yet, Daiwei is dead. No matter what they claim, everyone can see finally, that the real reason for ALL of this action is not really to help poor people, some communist take over or anything as sophisticated as that. It is to install a Shinawtra in power for a very long time. Not even PTP or the Reds can deliver exactly what they want, when they want, and as such, people are losing interest in the idea of just delivering a whole country to Thaksin. Popular Post waza
My guess is when Thaksin saw the piss poor turn out ....... He decided it looked more like a joke than a real threat to the ant-government protest. Therefore, it wasn't worth the money, so he pulled the plug. gerry1011
It's nice to see the reds act responsibly. They gathered to support the government. Then, after the court made its ruling, and they are satisfied with the PT's fate, they call off the rally and go home. Very wise. Very responsible. On the other side we have the Dems who rallied against an amnesty bill, and once that bill was scrapped... they decided to keep rallying... to topple the elected government this time. Popular Post jdinasia
But the people voted for the current charter so where is the justification for changing it? The constitution obviously needs to be changed. "The people voted for it" in a low turn out referendum that in the lead up to it, it was illegal to criticize it. They were handed a document (not the worst Thailand has ever seen an not too radically different from the 1997 "people's constitution" and told accept this or have no voice in what is put in place. It needs major revisions including dealing with public figures involved in graft/corruption. It needs major revisions in making sure that the separation of powers between Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of government stay balanced. It needs major changes giving strength to the checks and balances required for democracy. It needs major changes in establishing constitutionally protected free speech that will overrule some organic laws regarding defamation. It needs major changes in establishing human rights protections. Let's hope that we see something more in line with promoting democracy and human rights next time.

They were reduced to a couple of hundred supporters. They declared to escalate the red shirt protests onto the street. There probably would have been enough to post two at every bus stop on Sukumvit. The Dem rally SHOULD continue, I hope they expand it, I really do. This government needs to go. Nothing to do with the amnesty bill. That was the starting point, but the underlying reason for the demos is to oust the government. Keep up the good fight my friends. The reds are all but dead.
