Rare Leica camera could fetch record price at Hong Kong auction

An extremely rare Leica camera with an estimated value of around $1.2m (£750,000) is set to be auction in Hong Kong on Friday.

The gold-plated Leica Luxus II, dating from 1932, is one of only four of its kind ever made.

Its Welsh owner, who died last year, showed it on BBC TV's Antiques Roadshow programme in 2001, when its value was estimated at £5,000 ($8,100).

So what's the big deal with this camera. I checked and Adobe does not support RAW for this model ! ! ! ! ! crazy.gif

I don't care, I want it. Give me, get me, I want. Good investment is vintage glass. It's on the list.

I've got Keith Harris and Orville biddin' for it right now!

The was a project in development called silicon film which was intended to convert film cameras to digital. It died a death after the Sept 11 disaster when funding became hard to get. I'd love to have something like that now and would revive some old film cameras. Not that film is bad. It's just expensive and less convenient.

Good project for him to convert it to digital. Or he could buy 200 Leica M9s and try to convert one to film. biggrin.png

Oops, just realised that the link is from the 2012 sale. Not the same camera.

Maybe still time to get your bid in!
