Hi,

This topic has been covered before and I have taken a look at the experiences of others in this situation. It doesn't seem like a big deal but most posters with similar experiences departed Thailand via an international airport, which won't be the case for me.

Yesterday my departure card was lost at Khon Kaen airport where I picked up a rental car, to be returned to Suvarnabhumi Airport (one way rental). I called the rental car counter and asked them to send it to me, but I neglected to ask them the number on the card (silly me). Anyway, they remarked that they would send it, but that "it wasn't urgent as I will only be returning the car next week". I told them I want the card to be sent immediately, as I am planning on going to Myanmar overland for 3 days BEFORE the end of the rental (I will park the car at the border since rental car firms in Thailand generally don't allow their cars to be driven to other countries) as I have done twice already in the past month. I therefore need my card by tomorrow as I will be heading to Myanmar then (I don't have time to wait for the original one assuming it doesn't arrive in the mail today).

The whole reason this happened is because the lady at the car rental counter took out my departure card (which wasn't stapled into my passport by the officer in Nong Khai) and instead of photocopying my passport front page she ONLY photocopied an old Myanmar visa, which had my picture and some details on it, thinking it was my passport front page (I told her it wasn't but she said it was good enough for her to use). She then forgot to put the departure card back and I didn't notice it until I was nearing Nakorn Ratchasima.

If I don't get the card back by today, can I just fill out a new card (I have many Thai arrival/departure cards as I always collect a few whenever I re-enter the country) and then tell the officer at Mae Sot that I lost my original one? As mentioned, I entered Thailand through Nong Khai and will be exiting through Mae Sot. I will fill out a new departure card before getting to immigration and let the officer know upon my arrival.

Depends on the office, some insist on getting a police report it seems, but suspect they will just give you a new card. They can look up your old number in their computer.

I'm talking about the departure immigration checkpoint. Anyway, I already have plenty of new cards so they don't need to give me a new one as I can just fill out one of the ones I have. The issue is simply that I'll need to explain that I lost the original one as the one I will be filling out will have a different number on it.

Anyway, as you say they will probably just write down the old number on my revised departure card. If memory serves me correctly, some years ago it was a common occurrence to cross out the wrong number on a form such that it reflects the arrival card number with the officer not saying a word about it. I think that happened to me as well, but can't remember exactly as it's been years since I have lost a departure card.
