I'll believe they're leaving when we see firm evidence for it. I've already bought my lottery ticket for today, although I'm not a gambling man, still I'd bet the Reds know something the Yellows don't. (best get out of Bangkok before the Government restores law and order). i.e. crackdown. Then well all just have to wait and see how the two Yellow leaders contend with Murder charges on the 12th. Amnesty might have been a good idea after all, eh? 1
apetley Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Very clever move by the "reds" . Ball in your court Suthep, he is now in a tough spot with a big rug pulled from under him.Needs to man up and admit he has lost again and let the country get back to Thai normal. He can now join the amnesty crowd as he must have broken a boatload of laws. I think the reds will be quite clever if they do manage to pull this return home off. They have shown that they can still get some sizeable crowds out in support of the government. Suthep really needs to force things now in the next few days before the 5th. If I were the Govt I would playing a waiting game to see if the protests slowly lose pace this week.

Sunderland Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Hopefully returning home and not nipping into Bangkok for some sightseeing and burning.
Dizzle Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Media reports that it was a Red-shirt supporter (soldier in civilian clothes) who was shot dead by the students who carried a gun and fought back after they were attacked with weapons. Because both sides are having 24/7 round the clock rallies so close to each other, they knew it would further cause more deaths to continue on. So it's good that they cancelled before things get worse. I'm sure people are tired of it around there. Do you have any link(s) to such "media reports", other than Jatuporn's announcement to the reds or Richard Barrow's tweets, the death was a red supporter? This one, from the Assoc. Foreign Press, http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/685650-1-dead-four-people-shot-at-ramkhamhaeng-university-after-clashes/#entry7104820, reports on a 21-yr-old being shot dead, no affiliation (pro- or anti-government) is mentioned, while this one, from the Nation, http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/685650-1-dead-four-people-shot-at-ramkhamhaeng-university-after-clashes/page-2#entry7105161, reports it was in fact a Ramkamhaeng student that was shot dead.

wealth Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I guess Banharn's son was pressured to pull the plugs at the stadium. He's in charge of the sport and tourism ministry. I watched these poor people going to there buses until now. almost completely emptied. Not many of them would be able to think for themselves. Hope something real will be done for them and actually tell and proof the full truth ... 2
spareword Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 This whole 'red vs. yellow', who's right vs. wrong, the rich vs. the poor.... it really is just sad. All this finger pointing and still.....nothing gets done. The root of all this mess seems to be 'big brother'. He broke the law and fled the country like a dog with its tail between its legs. IF he was a true patriot, he'd face his charges like a true patriot...and not run and hide behind his wallet. Now the problem is Thailand is eating itself from the inside before they've even a chance to stand on their own two legs as a true democracy. Bottom line, the votes were in - she won. Was it a fair vote? Probably not. But is it ever a fair vote no matter what country we're talking about? Probably not. IMHO - What should've been done by anyone that wants to get their point of view across, is inform the people that need to be informed, and not wait until after the votes are in to start a fuss. Politics are a dirty game. Supposedly the yellows are supported by the upper class/hi-so/rich elite - well then if you all care so much, pool your money and start educating Isaan and the rest of the country that you feel are so misinformed. However, this current course of action goes to show that Thailand, no matter how many hi-end malls they build, and no matter how much cosmetics they advertise; will never be a truly beautiful democracy that they'd like to be. Keep it up and none of you are anything more than low-so...no matter what your silly bank account says. “Occasionally the tree of Liberty must be watered with the blood of Patriots and Tyrants.” -TJ 1
Popular Post seajae Posted December 1, 2013 Popular Post Posted December 1, 2013 At least one side is showing some maturity and common sense and wants an end to the violence. Now if only the yellow shirts would grow up and follow the lead and put an end to this Kaos. the violence was started by jatuporn when he called for the red shirts to confront the students and start this, there had been no violence up until then. Once again we see the reds have caused the ugly side then try to get out of it, the anti govt rally has been violence free apart from the dangerous whistles. We also saw all the weapons coming out of the stadium where the reds were supposed to be having a family gathering, seems they take weapons everywhere to keep it "peaceful". 7
PhoenixRising Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Knowing the Red-shirts, they went home to get some much needed sleep after last night. Rest assured, they'll make more plans to regroup at other venues to protect their democracy 'baby.' Love or hate them, you have to admit that Red-shirts will never go away. They just take a rest after a setback. As sure as the sun will rise again, they'll be back. 1

Fortunately the boss was there and called them back when they attempted to run into the soi opposite the gate.

The red shirts going home doesn't change the fact that the PTP government is still in power. My apologies, I always thought there was an association between the "reds" and the PTP. I guess I misread the situation, easy to do in Thai politics. There clearly is an association. But the red shirt protesters going home doesn't change anything for Suthep. PTP are still in government. His aim is to get them out of government. I'm not sure how busing in protesters and then busing them out will change that. Seriously? Without the reds to blame for random violence etc he and his mob are going to look pretty stupid continuing with their illegal occupations. He needs the reds in Bangkok on the slight off chance that the military may step in but that looks even more unlikely. Their " coup" intervention was the only way the PTP would be forced out of office, he knows that an election is a no win situation. Hopefully we are seeing the beginning of the end and as usual in Thai politics there are no winners and the country suffers again! 2

Also the organised assassinates from the very same source. These folks I have seen were poor and many ill. They need some recreation and unconditional love. Maybe the middle class can jump in and invite them in smaller groups each to a vacation or sightseeing tour for unification. This will take out the wind of the sails.

Popular Post Siripon Posted December 1, 2013 Popular Post Posted December 1, 2013 Orders from the man in Dubai no doubt, it doesn't look good on international TV having red thugs roaming the streets beating up all and sundry. Got to try and contain the damage to the image. If I was a red shirt supporter from Chiang Rai, for example, and I arrived yesterday after a 10 hour journey on a mission to 'protect my government and democracy as long as it's necessary' - and within 12 hours I'm told to go home again, I would be starting to think my leaders don't know what they're doing. 4
poskat Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 the government plan all along has been to bring in the reds and have them have a few violent clashes with the anti-gov groups. That gives the government the excuse to say all the protests need to stop (or be forcibley dispersed) because of the violence. 2

GeorgeO Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Strange, the Red Shirts loosing their taste for violence, something they always seem to be really good at.not getting paid enough? regards Worgeordie They didn't have to contend with a faction of society against them last time, so they could run rampant against the system with the full backing of their leader in exile. This time, it is clear that the people are against them, in much larger numbers than they can amass, such that a yellow streak has now appeared on the back of Jatuporn's red shirt. They can now all go back north with their tails between their legs, and the government can pack their bags and leave. This is the beginning of the end of the Thaksin regime. 2
