hi guys,

Thinking of doing a teacher training program with the American Tesol Institute. Anyone take this course yet ? Does anyone know if they are accredited by the Thai MOE? Would this certificate program be recognized by TCT towards my teachers license?

Many thanks for your input.

A TEFL, TESOL or CELTA course being accredited by The Ministry of Education means that the course facilities, the course content and the management have the blessing of the Ministry of Education to operate. A TEFL, TESOL or CELTA course is not a part of the teaching licensure by The Teachers' Council of Thailand.

Thanks, they do offer a primary school teaching diploma course and the TCT asks for such a thing. That's why I was curious.

"diploma course"

Again a diploma is not a requirement for the teacher's license.

Degree in education, BA, MA etc.

teacher's license in your home country.

TEFL are not a requirement for anything other than a very basic introduction to teaching EFL.

I don't have any details on the ATI-courses but to say it in general, only accredited graduate diploma in education/ teaching profession courses from universities and colleges qualify for a TCT teacher license.

For a TEFL training school to be recognized./accredited by the MoE it will need to have a school and curriculum that has been inspected and approved by the MoE. ATI does not own any schools but only acts as an agent. Therefore, they are not accredited/recognized by the MoE. Ask them for proof and report back here. If a school isn't accredited by the MoE, it's foreign staff will be working illegally.

As mentioned earlier, no TEFL/CELTA/TESOL course is currently accepted by the TCT for a TL.
