DekDaeng
"So in your own country, you go up to cashier when she is bagging your groceries and shake her hand? When you hope into a taxi, before you say anything, you shake drivers hand? When a waiter comes to take your order, you get up and shake his/her hand?" Whats yer point, lemon? Up to him, this is Thailand.

NanLaew
Another reason I avoid any shopping at the weekend when all the hungover pensioners, weekend millionaires and assorted farang riff raff are cluttering up the aisles. Not to mention those in their dotage who can't tell their Friendships' from their Foodland's. The reason assorted farang riff raff shop at the weekend is because they want to avoid the weekday smug, pious, smartarse farang toffs. ... they really must love the traffic too. scorecard
Some Thai guys may have been waiting on him. It's looks like it's the same old story. Farang disrespects a Thai man. Thai mans gets friends. You know the rest of the story. "It's looks like it's the same old story" I think you mean the same old fairy tale designed to save farang face. The bag boy never got anyone to do anything. He remained at the checkout until the farang's stuff was bagged and he paid, so he couldn't have had a chance to organize anything. And in the parking lot the security guard was trying to help the farang. There seems to be some myth that super-farang can only be dropped when set upon by a gang. The boy may have followed him out or the loud mouth might have pissed off someone else on his way out, but there was no organized reprisal by some gang of friends. Another know all. Talk about making assumptions, this one takes the cake. Gold Star to Suradit. How do you know he's / she's making assumptions? Maybe was there and saw what happened. On the other hand you would appear to be making assumptions. Is that not true?

canman
Is this your first day lemoncake? Those are good examples when not to wei. In its entry on irony, Dictionary.com describes sarcasm thus: In sarcasm, ridicule or mockery is used harshly, often crudely and contemptuously, for destructive purposes. It may be used in an indirect manner, and have the form of irony, as in "What a fine musician you turned out to be!," "It's like you're a whole different person now...," and "Oh... Well then thanks for all the first aid over the years!" or it may be used in the form of a direct statement, "You couldn't play one piece correctly if you had two assistants." The distinctive quality of sarcasm is present in the spoken word and manifested chiefly by vocal inflection ...[7 ] More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarcasm I renew my call to the moderators to offically define a sarcasm font! Pattaya46
Hi. I got today confirmation of what I heard yesterday. This come from the husband of a FriendShip employee : The guy was so irritated/excited when leaving the store, making big gestures, that he fell in the stairs to the parking lot ! Seems like no aggression from anyone in this case Edit: Ooops. I should read ALL page before posting... Aveabeeror2 already gave this story in post #44 above Edited December 2, 2013 by Pattaya46
DD13
Agreed Aveabeeror2. I have been in and out of Jomtien for five years now. I have never had a problem. But I make it a point to be polite to everyone. Do you also wei the taxi drivers and checkout/cashier girls? I certainly do. I feel better and they feel better. What's so bad about that? I'm a guest in a foreign land and respect to my hosts (all of them) is my default position. Behave the same in my own country too. It always makes me laugh inside when I see someone badmouthing waiters or waitresses in a restaurant or shop staff. Its' a sure way to get poor service (or someone pi**ing in your soup). Good for you, you can now educate yourself little about Thai culture to earn some more respect. So in your own country, you go up to cashier when she is bagging your groceries and shake her hand? When you hope into a taxi, before you say anything, you shake drivers hand? When a waiter comes to take your order, you get up and shake his/her hand? The World may just become a better place if we did......

MrWorldwide
Juast curious - if this happened in our own home towns, would it prompt a 3-page+ thread, name calling and racial slurs ? An a-hole made some noise and got punched (or fell over) - I dont really see any of that as World War 3 or even the Farang vs Thai 'war' that some here seem to dearly long for. Time to step away from those keyboards, tough guys. Edited December 2, 2013 by MrWorldwide

I don't think the majority of us want a war with our Thai hosts......a little bit of respect wouldn't go amiss..... Basically we are here to enjoy the weather, the country, and if we can, to help them have a better life (by the way of what we spend....which creates employment for them......and of course a lot of us employ them at our homes And do not forget....we are sticking up for the "young guy" on the check-out (a Thai I believe) I think that the "Tough Guy" got his just rewards by going ....A over T....down a flight of stairs At.......
