December 2, 201312 yr Train derails near Lamphun stationBANGKOK: -- The first official train leaving for the north from Bangkok to test the finished northern rail line derailed near Lamphun railway station this morning. The train carried top executives of the State Railway of Thailand who included the governor Prapat Chongsa-nguan.It was not immediately known what caused the derailment of the last bogie of the train but there was no injury. The train was launched from Hua Lampong to Chiang Mai to test the safety of the train service on this northern route after it was closed for maintenance and repair for over two months. It started the commemorative trip this morning on the way to Chiang Mai.The governor has earlier said he would resign if there was another derailment on the route which was maintained and repaired.Source: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/train-derails-near-lamphun-station/-- Thai PBS 2013-12-02
December 2, 201312 yr Popular Post So I guess the maintenance wasn't good enough. I think it should be this way all the time. Let the top officials be the ones who test after so called maintenance jobs and underfunded projects. Sent from my iPad using ThaiVisa app
December 2, 201312 yr Somebody better be there to take pictures of their nervous faces the next time these officials board a train to prove how safe it is.
December 2, 201312 yr Popular Post I know this is not politically correct but... Correct on both points. You just can't write this stuff.
December 2, 201312 yr The governor has earlier said he would resign if there was another derailment on the route which was maintained and repaired. New elections on the way in the North. Any Shinawatra available for the post ?
December 2, 201312 yr Perhaps a real test-train, before the 'official' test-train, might have been a good idea ?
December 2, 201312 yr The governor has earlier said he would resign if there was another derailment on the route which was maintained and repaired. And, has he done so yet? Or is he waiting for the replacement bus service so he can deliver it in person.

December 2, 201312 yr How much of the money that was spent to repair the rail line from Bangkok to Ching Mai went into corrupt politicians pocket? OK! I repeated myself, corrupt and politician have the same meaning just different words
December 2, 201312 yr And so goes the story of Thailand: failed government, failed technology, failed railroad. When will it change? p.s. I still love living here.
December 2, 201312 yr Popular Post If the train had departed fro Hua Lampong, not been "Launched", this may not have happened.
December 2, 201312 yr Popular Post Oh come on now, it was only the LAST bogie that came off, all the rest got through OK so it was a 90% successful trip?
December 2, 201312 yr the ghosts don't want anybody to go to Chiang Mai by train It's a 'sign' by the ghosts that we a 2 trillion baht High Speed Train from BBK to CMX to China.
December 2, 201312 yr Somebody better be there to take pictures of their nervous faces the next time these officials board a train to prove how safe it is. I'm assuming the Railroad Puiyai will head back home in their chauffeured BMW's and Mercedes' with police escort. They should be coming down Thapae Road any minute now. Road accidents are possible; derailments are a guarantee; loss of face -- priceless! Edited December 2, 201312 yr by connda
