george Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Thai PM rejects protest demands in national addressBANGKOK, December 2, 2013 (AFP) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Monday rejected the demands of anti-government protesters who are attempting to topple her government and replace it with a 'People's Council', saying they are unconstitutional."Anything I can do to make people happy, I am willing to do... but as prime minister, what i can do must be under the constitution," she said in a televised address, her first comments since violence broke out late Saturday after weeks of peaceful protest. -- (c) Copyright AFP 2013-12-02 1
Popular Post Local Drunk Posted December 2, 2013 Popular Post Posted December 2, 2013 "Anything I can do to make people happy, I am willing to do... but as prime minister, what i can do must be under the constitution," Is it against the constitution to resign? 7
cacruden Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 It is not, but Suthep has already rejected the resignation of the government and the holding of another election - that will not satisfy him. 2
Popular Post patjem Posted December 2, 2013 Popular Post Posted December 2, 2013 A bit late to be talking about abiding by the constitution, after your own unconstitutional actions last week, Yingluck! hint - that's why the protestors are on the street. Resign, lady. 11
Popular Post Pib Posted December 2, 2013 Popular Post Posted December 2, 2013 The Constitution is just a tennis ball right now between Yinluck and Suthep....both are hitting it back and forth with grunts & screams trying to score points with the people. 3

The Shinawatre gov't will ride it out, regardless of how bumpy, because they know the birthday events on the 5th will compel the demonstrators to desist. In order for demonstrations to crank up again - it will take a whale of an effort. 4

Not sure at all the demonstrations will end on the 5th, They may very well stay on the streets and government offices and proclaim it a "people's celebration". 3

The protesters will respectfully stand their ground and celebrate His Majesty's birthday and sing the national anthem at their front lines. They certainly won't pack up and get bused home. This isn't pay for play at this demo. 1

Popular Post Gone Posted December 2, 2013 Popular Post Posted December 2, 2013 As a 13 year expat here I have been riding the political wave for awhile and try to keep my opinions to myself as I just don't understand enough about Thai politics however I do know that no matter who gets in and when, there will always be anti-government protesters no matter what color the shirt; Red, Yellow, Black, Pink, Green or watermellon. I chose to live in this country so I must accept whatever happens politically and have been on both ends of corruption here. Sometimes it works for me and sometimes against me. I just find it sad that Thai people and Thailand always suffer no matter what the outcome is both finacially (tourism, investors etc.) and morally bad. Sad for a country of good people that just want to live a normal life and have a normal Government. I can however say that corruption is in every government in every country including my mother country of Canada. When I was a young lad we used to think that Communism was the anti-christ but these days at least a Communist country like Laos seems more stable. Anyways I just hope noone else gets hurt or killed !!! 5
