Im heading to apply for a Non-O and also apply for a retirement extension.

1. Can I do it all in the same day at immigration? If so, do I need 2 financial affidavits from the US embassy or can I use 1 for both Non-O and extension? I only got 1 when I went to the US embassy.

2. I think I have all my docs, but do I also need a police report from the USA (my home country)?

3. I got a medical certificate today but I did not see it as part of the requirements. Is it required?

Im just terrible at paperwork, so I am not sure what to make 2 copies of, and what I need to get second certified copies of.

The experts will soon be here, and that's not me. I've done it once. I had to get the non O which was for 90 days. Then I had to wait until not more than 30 days was left on that to apply for the extension.

They didn't require a police report for me. Some say they don't require a medical from within Thailand but they did for me. Never say never with Immigration. I saw a doctor for about 5 minutes who signed the form for a very few hundred baht. There was no real exam.

I did mine with a bank deposit so I don't know the answer for your income copies.

Next time I plan to use income, so I'll be interested in the answer.

BTW, when you get your extension, consider whether you also want a multi-entry. That leaves you free to leave and re-enter the kingdom. It costs, IIRC 3800 baht.

Where are you going to apply.

Most offices do them separately meaning that you have to go back for the extension.

No police report or medical certificate is needed.

If they don't do them together you will need another income affidavit for the extension.

Thanks Neversure! I plan on only staying another 70 days, so I might need to apply for the retirement extension after i get home to the USA. Maybe I will need to apply for another Non-O before I apply for the retiremment extension after I get home? I plan on going home around the end of January and returned mid March.

Thanks again for your help!

1. yes you need 2 income affidavits.

2. No police peport

3. No medical certificate

If you are going to CW there have been reports that they will do it at one visit. If you live in another province, they will only issue the Non-O and you will have to apply for the extension during the last 30 days permission to stay. I assume that you are either converting a visa exempt entry or a tourist visa to the Non-O. The Non-O will cost 2000baht, the extension 1900 baht.

Thanks for the information.

So if I understand correctly, even if I can do it in one stop, I will still need 2 income affidavits? That was the expensive one $50 usd each :)

Im here on a 60 day tourist visa which I extended for 30 days. I now have 9 days remaining on my 30 day extension. I would like to stay for another 70 days past the 30 day extension.

I will prob go to Ladprao since CW is closed as of today. Or maybe a day trip to Jomtien if thats where I need to go to do it in one step.

You may be able to do the conversion with only 9 days left. Normally it Is 15 days minimum. You may have to do a border run to get a 30 day entry.

If they do visa entry and extension at same time you will only need one income affidavit.

The visa entry's 90 days will start from the date when you apply.

You cannot go to just any immigration office it has to be done where you are living.

Ubonjoe thanks for your help.

Do you mean I might be able to do the conversion from Tourist Visa to Non-O with 9 days remaining? (I am really bad about understanding about all this) I did not know that I might need at least 15 days.

I am currently undergoing accupuncture in a bkk hospital a few times a week for a spinal injury, I have been going for 1 month already.

Could I possibly get some additional time if I get the doctor to write a letter saying that my treatment will take another 4 to 6 weeks? Or should I just do a border run, then apply for the non-o and retirement?

Your best bet would be to do two borders runs and get 30 days each. That would give you to early February which would cover your mid January departure. Once back in the US apply for a single entry Non-O to "explore retirement " from an honorary Consulate. Once you arrive in Thailand you will get 90 days permission to stay. During the last 30 days, apply for a 1 year extension for retirement. You will need an income affidavit but no police check or medical certificate. If you want to travel outside of Thailand during the 1 year extension you need to buy a re-entry permit to keep your permission to stay valid. Extension: 1900 baht. Re-entry permit: single 1000 baht, multiple, 3800 baht. You will only have to do address reports every 90 days that you are here.

Your other option is to apply for an O-A visa when you are back in the US. You would need a police check and a medical certificate, but would not have to transfer funds to Thailand. In your case that would not matter since you are using the monthly income method. You would get 1 year permission to stay on entry and if you exit and return on the last day that the visa is valid you would get another year, effectively making giving you 2 years with a 1 year visa. You would have to do 90 day reports and purchase a re-entry permit to keep your permission to stay "alive" after the visa expired.

Wow thanks. Could I do that with only 9 days remaining? Are there any special forms I would need the doctor to fill out?

There are no special forms. Just a properly written letter from doctor.

From clause 2.25 of police order 777/2551.

1) Must have been confirmed and requested by a physician of the hospital providing said treatment with full explanation about the illness, period of treatment, and the physician’s opinion that the illness is an impediment to travel
