SergeDoe Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Hi everyone! I've seen some questions about repairing camera here in Thailand and followed advise with no luck (. I own Nikon D800 and on the second day after my arrival I was shooting in the ocean (water was below my knees) and some water pored to my camera from little wave ( . Everything was fine, I continued shoting about 5 minutes. After about 5 minutes after shoting I turned off camera and then turn in on(mechanically), but with no luck. I've found some drops inside card slot near the lid. I removed the battery and left it to dry. After 3 days camera was in the same condition. Next day I came to Bangkok to official Nikon service (Empire tower on Sathorn Rd) and left it for diagnostics. Today had passed 7 days and I received email with the price for repair ~ 77000bht!!!(replace front body unit, image sensor unit, togo pcb unit, cf pcb, tft monitor, af sensor unit, grip unit, etc - almost everything!!) I think they can only replace parts (. For this price I can by brand new D800. I need help to find another service to actually clean and try to fix my camera. Thanx in advance! I live in Pattaya. Sergey

jkinbkk Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Just a thought, but I have used this inline site 2-3 times to fix and replace damaged major components in Apple gear. (hard drive for iMac, screen for 3rd Gen iPod, Battery for iPhone 3) The tutorials are very clear and concise, plus they sell most of the major parts required. For a fraction of the cost one (if careful and patient) could undertake most major repairs. I would suggest anyone reading this to take a look at the site as these days it covers repairs to a vast range of electronics ifixit They have a section on DSLR Camera If they don't have details of your requirement already loaded, you can ask them questions and they will advise accordingly. Hope this helps?
CharlieH Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Might get more help and advice over in the photography forum, just a thought.
SergeDoe Posted December 5, 2013 Author Posted December 5, 2013 phuketrichard 77k - that's the limit I think. D800 has weather sealed body and I did't think water can get there without deeping into! I used to shoot with mine D200 in the rain and at -28 celsius during a month. No problems. Oceanic water is deadly, even a few, I guess. I learned it the hard way ) I hope niks and official service don't related.
